An introduction to the calculus, with an excellent balance between theory and technique. Integration is treated before differentiation -- this is a departure from most modern texts, but it is historically correct, and it is the best way to establish the true connection between the integral and the derivative. Proofs of all the important theorems are given, generally preceded by geometric or intuitive discussion. This Second Edition introduces the mean-value theorems and their applications earlier in the text, incorporates a treatment of linear algebra, and contains many new and easier exercises. As in the first edition, an interesting historical introduction precedes each important new concept.

    Still useful books

This book published in 1969 joined Vol.1, published in 1967, in my library. A fortunate purchase in 2010 (new, not used, and I think I wrote a first review), as I way back in the 1980s did not buy Vol. 2 and did not think any much about the author until I found his name on amazon.com on a library computer and found Vol. 2 still available. Great, as I appreciate the author'' s in depth text and especially proofs.in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, each covering approx. 670 pages. Never mind modern computer maths have come and made these books somewhat old-fashioned. They are still useful.

    Great book in great shape

There isn't much to say about this book, it's a classic and I wanted to review the subject.

The thing is, I was after a good deal for this great book and I finally found it. It's used, but it was very cheap and it said it was in good shape. Then it arrived and it actually looks like new. The cover has some minor signs of damage (totally negligible), but the pages are perfect. It seems that whoever owned this book simply put in a shelf and never opened it.

I can't find the seller now (I'll try to find later), but whoever sold this, you did a great job.

Content is good. Condition is bad!

So I actually bought this book and guess what? The book spine was cut when received and the figures inside so bad that it is almost impossible to see the details because the ink is nearly not there. The text's condition however is fine.

It's not the first time I got a complain about Wiley books. I also bought Apostol's Analysis (twice!) and there were also cuts in the spine and bad printing. I'm done with Wiley!

I also find it ridiculous that Amazon don't have any kind of product control before sending their books! These cuts were very clear on the front cover! You have to be blind to miss them! I mean someone must have packed the damn thing. It is as if they want to give the customer a bad conditional book deliberately! After a lot of amazon book orders I am sad to say this isn't the first time. I recommend buying your books elsewhere if you want your new expensive books to be perfect!!

    Needs upgraded graphics and equations.

Great upgrade to an ebook. It would have been even better if the graphics and the equations had bee upgraded as well for this classic textbook. They are not bad, but they are not perfect.

    Missing pages

This review is about the printing quality of the hard cover book and not about the content itself. So, without no shame the contents section, the subsequent ones, and the first 12 pages are missing. After I waited extra few days for it now I have it in such a bad quality. The first volume is also having a blank page, too.

It seems like they know only to charge you insanely for the books and send you without no shame the bad printed and returned ones. Be careful when you order it in the hard cover format. horrible feelings...

Good but rigorous pedagogy. Tough both volumes out and you’ll have a very good base to pursue higher maths.

One of the best math books I have ever encountered, teaches intro to proofs and mathematical analysis in a very intuitive way.
