Alright, we have received several emails about this in our News inbox over the past months, but have not posted about it until now for a couple of key reasons. First, I wanted to try it out before I gave it a good nod, and second, it was not free

Well, now GameShadow is FREE and I have tried it and feel it deserves a bit more than a nod. This program is absolutely brilliant. Imagine what you were hoping the UT2004 Community tab would be like, and multiply it by ten. GameShadow is all that and oh so much more.

GameShadow is an intelligent game and driver updating program that will automatically detect when patches have been released for any games you own, and inform you that they are available. It also has several direct download links, fast content servers, and automatic patch installation. For all of us lazy people, it does all the hard work of finding what you need and getting it to you without you having to do anything special.

Another really helpful feature is that GameShadow can track your graphics driver, and in addition gives you benchmarks for several recent driver versions for some of the more popular games available today, so you can decide whether you should upgrade to the latest revision or stick with what you have. For somewhat more popular games, such as UT2004, the developers are really on the ball with additional content. You can view and download several mods and map packs for UT2004 directly through GameShadow, along with the automatic installation. Some of these include the Mega Pack, the Community Bonus Packs, Red Orchestra, and The SoulKeeper.

Of course, free software is not without it's limitations. You can only download 1gb of this extra content a month. However, patches and updates are always free and unlimited. If you've been wanting something that can keep track of what is going on with your games for you, then you should definitely give GameShadow a try. I did it, and I can honestly say that I am a believer. You can also make it official and subscribe, which will remove all the advertisements from the program and allow you to download as much content as you want from their servers. All in all, this is a great program, and I think everyone ought to at least give it a chance.

You can learn more about GameShadow, as well as download the client, from the GameShadow Homepage.
