Welcome to the United Nations
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development encourages member states to conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven. These Voluntary National Reviews, or VNRs, are presented at the HLPF meeting annually in July in New York. VNRs are voluntary, state-led, undertaken by both developed and developing countries, and involve multiple stakeholders. VNRs facilitate sharing of experiences, including successes, challenges and lessons learned, to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. They also seek to strengthen policies and institutions of governments, and to mobilize multi-stakeholder support and partnerships for the implementation of the SDGs.

36 countries will present their VNRs at the 2026 HLPF: Albania, Algeria, Bahrain, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Estonia, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Italy, Jamaica, Jordan, Kiribati, Liberia, Malawi, Marshall Islands, Mozambique, Norway, Republic of Moldova, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, Switzerland, Togo, Tonga, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, United Republic of Tanzania, and Uruguay
To support the VNR countries, DESA organizes annually a series of workshop in collaboration with partners. The first workshop for the 2026 VNR countries was held from 16 -18 December 2025 in Rome, Italy (read the summary here).
