dbo:abstract	"Le terme Four Brothers (Quatre frères) est le surnom donné aux solistes de la section d'anches de l'orchestre de Woody Herman (de 1947 à 1949) : les saxophonistes ténor Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Herbie Steward puis Al Cohn et le baryton Serge Chaloff. On nomma cet orchestre The Second Herd. Le surnom a pour origine le morceau composé et arrangé par Jimmy Giuffre et enregistré par Woody Herman et son orchestre à Hollywood le 27 décembre 1947.Giuffre donna à ce morceau le titre de Four Mothers pour motherfuckers mais Herman le remplaça par le plus convenable Four Brothers. La section d'anches est composée de manière inhabituelle : un alto, trois ténors et un baryton. Si l'écriture utilisée par Giuffre n'était pas nouvelle (harmonisation verticale d'une mélodie), c'est d'une part la ligne mélodique du thème qui emprunte le vocabulaire du style bebop, et d'autre part le phrasé et la sonorité des saxophonistes West Coast qui donne à ce titre toute sa nouveauté. On a attribué à Lester Young l'influence majeure des instrumentistes tels que Stan Getz, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims... L'originalité de "Four Brothers" réside dans l'exploitation collective dans cette nouvelle approche de l'instrument, d'où un "son de section" tout à fait nouveau. On pourra ajouter que cet apport est spécifique aux saxophonistes, les autres instruments à vent (trompette et trombone) ne connaîtront pas le même bouleversement. Le terme "Brothers" fut ensuite appliqué par extension à tous les saxophonistes qui se réclamèrent de ce style, tels Bill Perkins, Richie Kamuca ou Phil Urso."@fr ;
