Project DescriptionWMI Explorer is a utility intended to provide the ability to browse and view WMI namespaces/classes/instances/properties in a single pane of view.
As someone who works with Configuration Manager (SCCM), I spend a lot of time in wbemtest trying to find things which is very time consuming. This project is inspired by the
PowerShell based WMI Explorer written by Marc which had a really nice layout but a lot of features I need were missing. I started this project with the intention to combine the features of currently available WMI Explorers, and to make it easier to find what you're looking for in WMI.
Requirements• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851• Minimum Display Resolution: 1280x1024
• To view some Objects, WMI Explorer needs to run elevated (as Administrator).
Features• Ability to browse and view WMI namespaces/classes/instances/properties in a single pane of view.
• Ability to provide alternate credentials for connecting to remote computers.
• Ability to filter classes and instances matching specified criteria.
• Ability to view classes/instances in Managed Object Format (MOF).
• Ability to search classes, methods and properties with names matching specified criteria.
• Ability to run custom WQL queries.
• Automatic generation of WQL query for the selected Class/Instance.
• Automatic script creation (PowerShell and VBS).
• Highlighting of objects that have been previously viewed in the same session.
• Lists property enumeration values (if available). This is generally useful for SMS Provider classes.
• Lists property values containing embedded objects. This is especially useful for SMS Provider classes.
• Caching of retrieved classes/instances.
Known Issues• Current Version of WMI Explorer is not multi-threaded, so enumerating instances of a class which contains a large number of instances can cause the UI to freeze until all instances are enumerated.
• Enumeration of classes from root\directory\LDAP namespaces, can take a very long time and can even return "Quota Violation" error. As a result, this namespace is excluded from Search Results.
• To view lazy properties, you need to click on "Refresh Object", however after "Refresh Object" is clicked, cached properties for the selected instance are not updated.
