Here is the crappy computer 3D rendering of Garottage showing (sort of) how I want the windows. Of course, they will not be white, nor will the garage door. Haven't decided on rock facing, Hollywood set style, or not. And there WILL be a porch under that weirdly-supported roof thingie.
These are pics of printouts that came to me superduperdark. I tried to "enhance"... first is streetside, second from the rear elevation.

The slipcovers are better! But the color palate is the same...as it was before, and my front hall, today.
I have been solving my own design dilemma today, found two matching containers the correct size for giant birds of paradise. Good news is, in my climate, they will only get smaller, until they die.
Shed is being painted, agonized over exact shade of white, it's 1.5 cans of Museum White, vintage 2000, plus a can of what the painter had lying around, plus a can something slightly tinted that I found in garage, called "custom".

Normally when people are stuck on art, I give them a great big canary. But your room just screamed that it wanted pink, so that's what it got. I especially like these cotton curtains in a color called flax from West Elm. And pink kilim pillows; who could turn away from those?

I LOVE my home, but I steel myself even now for someday when the maintenance and taxes tip the balance and make me downsize. I believe that at some point I will want free of them, more than I will want to cling to my space, my customized environment, and my STUFF.

We went from a 2 story to a ranch patio home. Same square footage (2,100) but maintenance free exterior, lawn service, snow removal gutter cleaning. We travel & have a second home where we live 6 mos. I also wanted to eliminate steps from my life with my arthritis. We have an unfinished basement used for minimal storage.

In our house if the guys want to pee standing up they also get to clean the entire bathroom, I have 3 boys and a husband and they all pee sitting down because i think the alternative is gross in a home. As for toothbrushes I hate them sitting on the counter so they are always put away. By the way I tested my toilet after this discussion and spread toilet paper across the top and flushed and did not get one droplet on the paper I don't know about the microscopic germs but really how many people do you know who have ever gotten sick from this stuff.

As long as the playroom could be converted back into a dining room it should be fine.

Do you already have a dining table & chairs? If not I suggest a rectangle table, pushed to a corner, with either a bench or 2 chairs against the wall. Other chairs can be placed on the ends & opposite the wall. Then across the room a long 2 shelf unit with 6 or 8 baskets for toys & books. If they have more toys than that I guess you can store them under their beds.

Thanks for the tip with what you've encountered on Tee shirts, Bubba's.
Wonder if these are unisex?
I have a 50% chance of getting it wrong or right. Boy oh boy! Teeter-totter. This is important stuff bc I suppose we are representing Houzz out there and this is the first trip of it's kind. This is HISTORY making! After a time or two, Houzz could run a contest for a trip to join the group! Just imagine how this can take off! !! We'll be having worldwide conventions...SUMMITS...THAT'S IT..this is the first HOUZZ SUMMIT but not officially I guess. I suppose they dont mind us using their name? Do we have their blessing or lawsuit? I guess getting shirts from Houzz is a pretty positive sign!
I hope they put Dilemma on there somewhere!!! : )

Thought you may be interested in hearing that mom got through her first cycle of chemo last week with only a small amount of nausea the evening after the second day. We are really happy that ( so far) it seems very tolerable. Of course, this could change in the five cycles she has left, but now she gets a break until the end of the month. Nice to have some relatively happy news to report for a change!

As far as sofa color, be careful of grey, I think it would need to be a very light grey to compliment the chairs, and then it might be too close to the walls. Your chairs don't read as 'true' grey to me, and you've got a grey rug, so it may be a challenge to find the right grey, and then it might very well be just too much grey. I think I would go looking armed with samples of the drapes, grey chairs, wall color, and rug, if you have all of those. Rarely will three people sit on a sofa, but either three cushions or a bench seat, single cushion would better allow it if necessary.

I imagine there will be lots and lots of good light colored neutral choices. I'd just take samples of everything you can from the room and pick some light colors that seems to have a nice complementary tone to most of the things in the room (chairs, paint color, rug, drapes). Then, if you can, bring the best fabric swatches home to move around the room and look at in daylight and lamp light. I wouldn't go too light, but not much darker than a typical natural linen color.

The only way you will know is to sit on the sofa, really. My tight back sofa holds you upright but the down wrapped seat cushions are very comfy. Then again, we had decided that we did not want a sofa we would sink into too much as (getting older) it is getting harder to get up!

Well....if you are a Houzzer regular you will note that everyone seems to be painting everything a shade of gray? Gray is the new beige, apparently! You might look at Sherwin Williams range of grays. Something in their collection might work for you. Then choose an accent color for your towels, pot holders, etc. popular colors now seem to be yellow, orange, turquoise. Keep the wall color subtle....and punch up the color with your inexpensive accessories! And have fun with this!

If you have no windows, a soft shade of yellow is always happy in the kitchen.

Bubba: So many wonderful suggestions already on Mom's situation, from getting help from insurance company to persuasion via the health threat....
My mom tends to be somewhat like this, but as she gets older, she is doing better at tossing things, as she doesn't want us to deal with box after box of who knows what--usually books and magazines and articles and very worthy reading material that her grandchildren will likely not read. (I am my mother's child--I today was despairing over a box of science/history/current event magazines that my kids [and grandkids] *can* use for school but probably will not, in reality. (I home school the children, so school resources is a ginormous issue--literally.)
Two times when she temporarily allowed me almost carte blanche in tossing---one was when the basement drain backed up due to tree roots, and I reminded her that just because something seemed to have dried out did not mean there wasn't a mold issue. The second is when she had a mouse dinner meeting in a drawer...turned out her decades-long habit of keeping old twisty ties, aluminum foil, plastic bags, etc., had morphed into keeping empty cereal bags. The crumbs, or little sugar crystals she couldn't see, or whatever, had been engraved invitations to the banquet at her house. We washed the silverware and dish towels. She agreed that the junk was not to be kept. But perhaps your mom is not going to agree so readily about non-essentials. BLee had good words of compassion and empathy, while recognizing that there are problems here.
Rant away, it will result in not ranting at Mom, and will produce prayers, words of encouragement, and words of helpful advice. So ranting is a good thing, sometimes.

Baby sis and BIL in town today. Amazing how quickly I am able to take out the trash, empty the dishwasher, start a load of laundry, etc. ... when we have visitors. And, two more boxes of Mom's things.
My purging has been at a bit of a standstill for the past few days. You have all been so encouraging. Purging, cleaning, cooking, weeding, laughing, reading .. it is a great life. I am blessed.
bubbas, I wish you a good day. Your wonderful humor will pull you through.
licksch, I cannot find anyone to hire to do those chores. Good for you.
chook, repost your poem here, please.

Ok...time to close the thread. Business picked up steadily throughout the week. First brunch tomorrow and liquor hearing on Monday. Then full steam ahead. I'm thankful for all the support and hope you enjoyed the journey. For those that have asked, website is finally up at www.tatthegeneralstore.com. Tea marketplace will soon follow.

Apparently I have to do it thru the browser instead of the app. The app asks for library or camera. That's why I don't know what is the library, and I don't need the camera if I don't have the subject in front of me. Thanks again for the lesson.

Cloudpants, you should put that one up on the camping or glamping poll thread.

I like the suggestion to use the art propped by the windows over the buffet, but would like to make this suggestion.....turn them sideways and stack them one on top of the other. That will make them a good size for that buffet. Set some nice serving pieces on the top.
I was wondering if the rug was the right size, too.......is there a way for three chairs on each side to be comfy while dining? Then I think the table will be ok on that rug. I love that rug!
