how about getting a small sectional on the left wall for ur TV aera- something like this : Coaster Kayson Contemporary Leather 5 Piece Sectional Sofa in White and you can then get one hanging chair in front of the fireplace :Rattan Hanging Chair with Stand - keep the colours light to have your room visually larger and paint the walls of the fireplace and TV something lighter, depending on your style and taste, maybe you can get faux stone wallpaper if you like that look :Faux Stone Wallpaper, Grey, Double Roll
Faux Ledgestone Wallpaper on the right side of the room you could get a credenza Cattelan Italia | Avenue Credenza
i did that on photoshop a bit now , so you can get what i mean... what do you think about this layout? i dont know ur dimensions so im not sure this idea will fit/ look good ...

I think you can bring in a mirror or some artwork over your dresser, and your vanity seems a bit cramped at the corner, try bringing it towards the other side of the dresser, next to ther door, that floorlamp could go at the corner of the room, where your vanity is. what is that chair next to your bed? as lounging? seems like you have space on that wall where ur chair is? or is that a entrance to another room next to it?

jdubzzz
there is a hallway next to the chair/hamper that leads to that hallway with the closets and bathroom. I have a question that's been bugging me.. does the dresser need to be directly across from the bed? if not, what would i put on that wall?
As for the rug, most of the pics I see of rugs in the bedroom have a portion of it underneath the bed, too. That bothers me significantly because our room gets so dusty and I hate not being able to reach some areas of the rug and having it accumulate dust. Would it seem weird if the rug was just in the open area and not tucked underneath the bed?

i agree with greenyogini, a pattern on just one wall makes much more of a statement! - beautiful work! you could actually paint your ceiling the same light blue as the one in your pattern, just an idea :)
what furniture are you placing in the alcove? you could get a nice wall decal with a saying or something similar if you like that stuff...

What about using removable contact paper for the black appliances? (or maybe the top half of the fridge?) Supposedly there exists a kind that doesn't leave marks, and certainly on a fridge exterior I would think any residue could be easily cleaned. It could be a way to get a lighter fridge on a temporary basis.

With the Carrara marble and that afternoon light, take a look at BM touch of gray 2116-60. It goes on like a pale lavender and will calm down the west light. My other suggestion is BM Valley forge tan. It, too, has an undertone…this one kind of platinum/blue/lilac and it a great neutral.

b1n0xt3
I just realized, I really need to get a new BM fan deck - I think I got it in 2006 and none of the colors everyone is recommending is in the index - LOL - off to BM :)
Just curious, since I can set the tone with accessories, etc. do you think that I should do shadow molding on the bottom 1/2 of the wall and just paint it white (currently the trim in my home is White Dove), and that way I can always change the top color easily? Sort of like in the picture Maureen posted above? However I have 2 concerns (it might not work because of how chopped up my powder room is) and two, I'm trying to keep things clean, fresh and simple - and I feel like that might not fit the bill.
I didn't mention before that I'm redoing my kitchen (white shaker cabinets) and the fabricator is coming to do the vanity and kitchen at the same time (I'm not getting marble in the kitchen though). The kitchen cabinets have been done for a few weeks now - the only thing now holding me up from having them install my kitchen countertops is getting this powder room painted, so the vanity can be installed. I have a white bead board island in the kitchen. I originally thought of doing bead board in the powder room (which is just off the kitchen), but I thought it might be going overboard with bead board.
I'm not a designer - I don't even enjoy these projects. I hate making decisions, so that's why I want to be very safe/conservative with my choices. That is also why my projects take forever. Thank you everyone - this site is a God-send for people like me.

I thought of vertical, but thinking now, when you rotate it, place 2 nice sconces next on either side, it would be above the chair rail and perhaps even look better, but it might be too wide, you can try and see how it looks

i cant see how much space you have but a laundry sorter is great to have like this- with a pole on top to hang ironed shirts etc. bamboo gives the laundry room a very nice, clean look.: Lohas Bamboo Laundry Sorter with Canvas Bag
you can get a much friendlier look in your room with a new wallcolour or a backsplash, i personally like green in a laundry room, makes it very friendly, brings ur washing experience to a whole new dimension :)

You have a lot going for you in this room already it just needs a few finishing touches. 1. top the cabinets with crown moulding 2. add butcher block as counter above the washer and dryer - ikea has good cheap options 3. use grout renew on slate floors 4. paint the walls a nice cheery color that makes you happy
5. it looks like the trim needs a fresh coat of paint
6. lastly change to woven/bamboo shadesf to break up all the white and gray.

hi! you could get one accent wall and have it teal and white striped vertically, though in a lighter tone then her bedspread and then have the rest of the walls either white or teal
teal color , such as :
benjamin moore: misty teal or bermuda teal
, but it might be too overwhelming to have it all the same colour. green goes also very well with teal :
as u see in this pic- see the wallcolour on the left wall.

As Genevieve mentioned, the table is large for the wall space. You may want to play down the overall mirror effect and consider a couple of mirrored/silvered wall candle sconces and artwork in the center. Sunburst mirrors also minimize the typical mirror surface while providing a coordinated wall treatment.

you could also get a recliner and ottoman in front of the fireplace, with a rug and a floorlamp to make this one aera- this way youll have a good traffic flow going from the tv aera to the dining table

If the brown couches are still in good shape, perhaps just adding colorful pillows will do the trick. Brown is so easy with young children and is still in style. Other idea now that you mentioned you have a young baby, would be to make the entire area when dining table was (if you do decide to move to middle of room) into a play area. Congratulions on your new baby!

i dont think putting a island in the middle is so great, cuz u have a table right next to it. if u have 4 feet in between ur counter and that table, a island in the middle wont give u a good traffic flow, u need 3 feet clearance for a good flow. or could u move that table? perhaps rotate and get it next to a kitchen island? do you have space for that?

interiordesignme
oh, am sorry, just saw u wanna put that floating island as a "U"-shape, i cant see the space next to ur kitchen, but that might be closing ur aera off, but not sure, u could try moving that island the way u want it and see how that looks with walking by etc.

Won't placing the fridge directly next to the living room area (more specifically the couch) be a really harsh contrast/transition between the spaces? Would it make more sense to just move the white cabinet above the fridge in its current location?

Hi---wallpaper the wall behind the headboard-paint ceiling a shade or two deeper than the walls (will look sophisticated), simple bedding, colorful pillows, a desk/chair, and a pretty rug. I'd start with having her select a rug or wallpaper first-it will dictate the rest of the space. Good Luck!

You could create more of a living space vs just a bedroom. Placing her bed along the wall and making it look more like a couch is a good start. Adding a work area, a shag carpet and an extra comfy chair (or bean bag) where she can read comfortably, which a floor lamp neaby. Side drapes or a roman shade may be nice. Start with bedding and coordinate around it as well as for matching paint color.[houzz=California Country Residence]; [houzz=Kelly Edwards design];

seeing it like that, it might be okay, you need at least 3' clearance for a good traffic flow, but will you add here the pantry and fridge on the left side , or is that on the plan already? if you still have a table in this room here, i'd take away the "U"- countertop to get it airy and spacy.

depending on how much storage you need, you could try to put a row of bookcases on one side of the wall- its not like you're gonna have a lot of other furniture here, and you have a nice wide desk that you'd probably wanna use to its fullest. bookcases aren't that deep anyhow. with bookcases on either side of the window, i think you'll be minimizing your source of natural light- ur windows, and when working it'll feel overwhelming.- thats my opinion...

Is that gray wainscot in the open door to the left? Paint the wainscot the same color but also carry the paint to the molding. I would use enamel because I would want it to shine since the room is long with a limited light source. So yes, paint the desk too. Add bookshelves to both sides of the window, same color and a floating shelf over the window. Add lighting to the interior of the bookshelves and glass multi-pane paneled doors. IKEA has some in their kitchen department that has a drawer or drawers beneath and I would opt for those. I would add sconces to the sides of the book shelves just for the effect. Change all the outlet covers to match the surface, paint them if you must. What is your favorite color? Don't know? Open your closet and take out the piece of clothing that you find you wear the most often. Now go to the nearest paint store, buy a can of mat white paint and a small can of paint the exact same color as that piece of clothing you love. Stop at the market on the way home and buy some cheap paint brushes 2" wide along with a turkey baster, some plastic spoons, disposable cups, and a marker that will write on the cups. put a small amount of the white paint in a cup and add some of the colored to it stir it with the spoon and then paint a 4" square (approximately on each wall). Use the marker to number the cup and a pencil on the wall, under each square, with that same number on it. Vary the portions of paints until you are tired of doing this. Then live with them for a few days. You will find one you like and you can paint your entire room that color or you might be like me. I found I like different shades on each wall because of the lighting and so I ended up buying 4 different values.

well, you could put a ethanol fireplace in your first layout, where the dresser's right now, that would give you a really cozy focal point and put your dresser where your lounge chair is. there doesnt seem to be space for the fireplace in the 2nd layout - would just look akward,

how about switching the bean bags with your sectional? that way, you have the stone wall and the bean bags as kind of a "contrast" - am not sure how that would look, but that way, you create a aera, with the sectional and get a coffee table in the middle, but am not sure if it will work with the bean bags, they seem a bit too big ...

I would change the sink - maybe a wall mounted sink with drawers underneath- you can keep a basket of towels underneath
If it's in the budget - get custom glass doors if not I would go with a very simple pattern complimenting the wall color
I find browns/ beiges and gray tones are very soothing for the bathroom
