chesterfield...check. leather arm chairs...check. we decluttered 40 years of living together and 2 grown sons into a 1 bedroom. the only new pieces are the 2 mentioned. i wanted a cleaner, uncluttered look in this living/family room, but i still wanted it to feel friendly and welcoming.

I love the sweet heart art above the hearth.. Nothing says comfort to me like art. I keep my tiny studio apartment in London in basic white, black with blonde wood... But add a piece of my art to the wall for that extra touch of colour; something for my mind to be comforted by, ponder on, and daydream with. I change the art depending on the season, or to just freshen things up. I find there is a good vibe from original art that permeates a room that just can't be beat! xox

i said"great house" because i think it is well crafted...i was referring to the conflicting remarks above mine. also, just stating the fact that every realtor i have ever met, and i've moved 11 times, HATES wallpaper, that doesn't mean you shouldn't use it in every room if that's what you like.

I am not usually a fan of wallpaper, but love the RL in the dining room. I did think the wallpaper in the living room was sort of scary - reminds me of Hansel and Gretel being lost in the woods and then finding the cottage only to discover it belongs to a witch.

I love the bold use of classical wall paper, many large scaled antiques and all the beautiful and numerous elements that make up the formal living and dining room. A very full and dramatic look but also has a contemporary undertone. It just works in a large room with high ceilings reminiscent of rooms in European palaces.
After the richness of the public spaces, the food preparation part of the kitchen, however, seems less finished and bare.

My older son lives in Boston as well, and the younger one is happy on a blow up mattress in the living room for now.
We gave up the extra bedroom for a great location and a much bigger living room and master bedroom. The cost of the extra bedroom will pay for a lot of nights at the Taj or the College Club! Always compromises, I guess. Wish I had better suggestions.
