I’m no theater genius, but I can say w is essential viewing — especially in this political climate. So proud of for producing this funny, smart, thought-provoking show. Hope it comes to SF! (Thanks for coming, !)

I befriended 19 years ago when he was a mail and copy boy in the SF Chronicle newsroom. His career has skyrocketed just a little since then...😉 Having lots of fun together in NYC — tomorrow we’re seeing a play he produced!

No one writes with urgency about our new terrifying planetary moment like . Her work transcends the word "writing" -- like an oracle sent to shock us into valuing the humanity of each other. Read this, and know that this hell is what we are doing to each other.

What's so sobering about this piece is that was just one of dozens of devastating wildfires that have forever changed lives of tens of thousands of Californians since 2015. Details are grim, but these are real stories.

SF General admitted they were only receiving about $2 million a year from balance billed patients out of a $1 billion annual budget. So just a drop in the bucket. (Makes it weird they were hanging onto this policy for so long.)

San Francisco General Hospital’s recent announcement that it will no longer stick patients with huge, unfair bills if their insurance companies don’t pay the hospital’s crazy prices was great news. But it’s not the end of the story. via .

There have been many devastating stories out of California’s deadly wildfires, but this may be the most gut-wrenching of all. Nobody tells these important accounts of the human toll of climate change as beautifully as .

Also in this column, a common sense proposal to deal with the scourge of porch piracy was kicked to next year. So keep finding ways to avoid packages being left on your doorstep. (Deliveries to neighbors or work, private lockers, sign for delivery, etc.)

My latest: San Francisco General Hospital finally did the right thing when it comes to balance billing, but that’s not the end of the story. A bill to ban the practice statewide from and cleared an important hurdle surprisingly easily this week.

New is Art Spander, the Chronicle's beat writer in 1965! Apple podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Art, who covered last night's game, is an inspiration. Very positive dude. Check it out!

This came after Gascon explained that there aren't more convictions for drug dealing because police aren't capturing the crimes on video. Hmmm...
