Proposed SF ‘safe’ parking lot upsets some residents, pleases others

The first official community meeting around the proposed “safe” parking lot drew about 150 people and a range of opinions.

San Francisco District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai speaks to the crowd during a community meeting held at Balboa High School in San Francisco, Calif. Saturday, July 20, 2019 addressing the proposed safe parking center near the Balboa BART Station for people who are homeless and live in their cars.

Walgreens has occupied the Bayview Plaza shopping district for 30 years. Now it is closing, and some Bayview businesses are worried that a marijuana store could move in.

Passengers make their way through the station after disembarking a train at the Caltrain Station in San Francisco, Calif., on Thursday, July 18, 2019. Business leaders and transportation officials are putting together a sales tax ballot measure for next year that would generate billions for transportation infrastructure in the Bay Area. Top on their wish list is the downtown extension of Caltrain, with a tunnel running from the Mission Bay Area to the Transbay Terminal.
