This is the real issue. In local government, you get what you fund. If more than half your budget automatically goes to hammer responses, you get lots of hammers. Most every city has budget hearings this month, go look up your city's budget, ask yourself what is prioritized?

YEP. This work isn't free. Treating it like it's free devalues the work, which is what regressive orgs want to do. This means, if you're successful, the org can take credit for the work you do. If you're not successful, the org didn't do anything but offload pivotal work on you.

Humor me: set an alarm on your phone for 3, 6, 9, 12 months from now and when it goes off, look at your life and count how many Black businesses, orgs & artists you're still supporting. How many antiracism resources are you using? How many of your own bias have you addressed?

The Baltimore homicide unit is utterly overwhelmed, with detectives carrying far too many cases each. Closure rates are down around 30 percent. Just something to consider during the "abolish/defund" debate.
