Could humanoid robots help prepare individual sets of parts for Audi’s final assembly – around one million times a day? Four companies are joining forces to find out. At NVIDIA GTC Berlin, Agile Robots SE, AUDI AG, Dassault Systèmes and NVIDIA announced a joint project to bring AI-powered robotics into automotive logistics at Audi's Ingolstadt plant. The project is already underway in the Production Lab at Audi, the innovation space for future production and logistics technologies. The focus is a longstanding challenge: extending automation to the complex task of handling a wide variety of parts and placing them in the right order for final assembly. Agile Robots builds the mobile humanoids, combining mobility with human-like reach and dexterity. Their two arms can handle large, flexible parts, while AI-powered perception helps them identify and grasp components in mixed containers and varying positions. Dassault Systèmes uses its DELMIA solution to create a virtual twin of logistics: a scientific, multidisciplinary, and multi-scale representation of the humanoid and its working environment (video: DELMIA simulation). DELMIA is accelerated by NVIDIA Omniverse libraries for physics-based simulation. In the virtual twin, they test the robot's task for feasibility, timings, ergonomics and safety before physical deployment. The shared goal: bringing automation to complex, variable tasks at the heart of modern manufacturing, with mobile humanoids working alongside employees to improve productivity.
