Takelma Indian Language

Takelma is considered by most linguists to have been part of the Penutian family of languages, possibly related most closely to Kalapuya. Though there are still descendents of the Takelma Indians at the Siletz and Grande Ronde reservations, where they and many other Oregon tribes were forced to relocate in the 1800's, the the last speakers of the Takelma language died in the early 20th century.
