Summary

The Reverse Engineering module is designed for students or enthusiasts who are interested in learning more about reverse engineering, either as a potential career path or as a personal interest, Cybersecurity professionals who want to enhance their skills in vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and malware analysis, and IT professionals who want to gain a deeper understanding of how computer systems work, or who are interested in enhancing their skills in cybersecurity and system administration. Throughout this module, students will develop an understanding of the principles of reverse engineering and how it can be applied in software, hardware, and systems analysis, how to analyze and interpret low-level code and data structures, including assembly language, machine code, and binary formats, and practice reverse engineering on real-world examples, using a hands-on, problem-based approach to learning.

Recommended prior knowledge:

  • Basic programming skills in at least one programming language, such as Python, C, or Java

  • A basic understanding of computer architecture and digital logic

  • Familiarity with computer systems and operating systems, including the command line interface

Preliminary Information about Reverse Engineering Fundamentals Module

Cyber threats identified by SOC analysts can sometimes go far beyond the network access and network breach. Threat Hunters who are actually the Blue Team members can detect malware on servers or endpoints within the organization. It is very important to obtain detailed information about the activities of the malicious element detected to eradicate it from the network before spreading to other systems and reduce the damage that may cause in the organization. After the malicious file is exported from the infected system, it is delivered to the Malware Analyst, a SOC member, for analysis. Malware Analyst examines the malware with reverse engineering techniques in order to detect the malicious activities of the malware. This is simply how the malware behaviors are analyzed and necessary actions and precautions are taken.

In this training, the basics of reverse engineering are explained in a simple way. This module is intended for beginners. Candidates with little or no prior knowledge of reverse engineering who would like to learn the technical fundamentals are encouraged to complete this training carefully.
