  • 🌟 STAFF PROFILE 🌟 Say hello to Claire Punch, Principal Policy Analyst in the Energy Demand Initiatives team at Energy Policy WA. Having joined EPWA in March 2026 after relocating from the Northern Territory, Claire brought with her extensive experience in the energy sector, having previously worked as a Senior Consultant providing in-house support on a major energy infrastructure corridor project. While this is her first role in consumer energy policy, she says she quickly felt at home in a space where social policy meets one of the biggest transformations of our time. Claire’s current work focuses on the education and evaluation workstreams of the Western Australian Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (WA SHEPI), helping deliver energy efficiency upgrades to around 4,000 social housing properties across the state. She has particularly enjoyed seeing the program's education workstream gain momentum, supporting positive consumer behaviour change and helping ensure the benefits of the energy transition reach those who need them most. ⚡🏡 People are at the heart of what motivates her. She believes technology plays an important role in the energy transition, but it's people who ultimately drive meaningful and lasting change. That passion is also reflected in her recent completion of a Master of Business Administration with a Distinction average, where her final research project explored equity and accessibility in demand-side energy policy. 🎓 Describing herself as determined, a good listener and occasionally cheeky, Claire credits her mum as her greatest role model. Her mum recently passed away after ovarian cancer and continues to inspire Claire through the resilience, pragmatism, positivity and kindness she showed throughout her life. Outside of work, you'll usually find her cheering from the sidelines at her kids' soccer games, heading to the beach when the weather allows, cooking, travelling, or occasionally convincing herself she's a runner. 🏖️⚽🍳 When it's time to unwind, Claire loves reading and recommends ‘The Correspondent’ by Virginia Evans as one of her favourite books from the past year. Another standout read is ‘Demon Copperhead’ by Barbara Kingsolver.  📚
