Happy Halloween from the National AI Centre! 🎃 We're taking this opportunity to talk about a spooky new phenomenon: BEWARE THE FRANKENSTACK 🧟 It started with ChatGPT. Then someone found a tool for meeting notes. Marketing started generating content. Finance is trialing something nobody else has heard of. And someone, somewhere, is definitely using a free AI tool they found via a social media influencer. The result? A slightly terrifying collection of AI tools stitched together across your organisation — with no clear picture of what's being used, what information is going into them, or who's responsible. That's a Frankenstack. The problem isn't necessarily the number of tools. It's the lack of transparency and governance around them. Before stitching another tool onto the ever-growing monster, stop and check a few things: ✓ Take stock of what you've already got and keep it all on an up-to-date AI register ✓ Set some ground rules with an AI policy that everyone in the organisation is across At ai.gov.au we've got templates for both an AI register and an AI policy to help you get started. 🔗 Head to https://lnkd.in/gUgC-4eA #AI #AIGovernance #ResponsibleAI #AIAustralia #Halloween

It's been a big week of AI conversations. On Tuesday, we partnered with CEDA - Committee for Economic Development of Australia to host the AI Leadership Summit, bringing together more than 50 speakers to explore where Australia is at with AI and the choices ahead across work, governance, infrastructure, skills and national security. On Wednesday, the rooms got smaller and the conversations more practical. Less talking about AI in the abstract, more working through what organisations are actually navigating, where they’re getting stuck and what they need next. On Thursday, the NAIC team took some time to connect, reflect on the year so far and focus on what we want to achieve together next. Three days of listening, learning and connecting. AI might be the subject matter, but weeks like this are a good reminder that the work is really about people. #AI #AILeadershipSummit #NationalAICentre #ResponsibleAI

AI is changing Australian businesses. And we want to understand how. The National AI Centre's survey on AI in Australian business is part of an ongoing national study collecting information directly from Australian organisations, including businesses of all sizes, not-for-profits and social enterprises. It aims to build a national picture of AI use, including which tools are used, what value AI is adding, what’s stopping people from using AI, and how AI use is changing over time. The more people take part, the more complete the picture we can build. So what are you waiting for? Register to take part and help us tell Australia's AI story: ai.gov.au/survey

This week, as part of Get Online Week 2026, the National AI Centre and Good Things Australia brought together government, industry, academia and community leaders in Sydney for a roundtable on community-based AI literacy. The conversation centred on an important question: as AI becomes more widely available, how do we make sure Australians have the skills and confidence to navigate it? It was a great opportunity to take a look at what works when it comes to supporting people to engage with AI safely, confidently and on their own terms — particularly for communities who may face greater barriers to digital participation. Some of the key themes around the table: 🌟AI discernment matters. People need the skills to judge when, how and whether to use AI, not simply technical knowledge about how it works. 🌟Trusted places and people matter. Community organisations and Digital Mentors can reach people who may not be reached through formal education or workplace training. 🌟AI literacy is bigger than workforce skills. People need the capability to navigate AI across everyday life, services and information. 🌟Community experience needs to be part of the national conversation about how we build AI capability and shape the future of AI. A huge thanks to Swinburne University of Technology for sharing their emerging research on this topic, and to everyone who contributed to the roundtable! We're looking forward to continuing these conversations and working towards uplifting AI skills and digital inclusion across Australia. 📸 Image taken by Jess Wilson, CEO of Good Things Australia We're proud to partner with Good Things Australia on the AI for Good program, supported by Telstra, Microsoft and LinkedIn. #AI #AILiteracy #DigitalInclusion #ResponsibleAI #AIAustralia #GetOnlineWeek
