  • Growing fresh produce, practical skills and pathways to employment in Broome. The Kimberley Sustainable Food Garden is a collaboration between The Skill Engineer, Job Pathways and VTS Vocational Training Services RTO# 51843, supporting local job seekers to develop skills in horticulture and sustainable food production through practical, hands-on learning. This weekend, the crew will bring their fresh produce to the Broome Courthouse Markets, an opportunity to connect with the community and share the results of their work. Congratulations to Juan and the team on their progress, and thank you to our partners for supporting meaningful learning and employment pathways in the Kimberley. If you’re in Broome tomorrow, come along, meet the crew and see what they’ve been growing. #Broome #Kimberley #SkillsDevelopment #EmploymentPathways #SustainableFood

  • Creative learning can happen well beyond a studio. Travelling 260km from Broome, Skilled Creative’s Kimberley Digi Van has joined the Marlamanu crew for a week of music and digital storytelling through our collaboration with KRED Enterprises. Marlamanu’s Aboriginal-led, on-Country school is set on a working pastoral station, where young people learn alongside Aboriginal mentors, connecting cultural knowledge with practical skills. Trust, responsibility and respect underpin this learning environment. Our staff are supporting young people to explore recording, rapping, film and photography, bringing creative tools into a setting that values their stories and connection to Country. Thank you to KRED Enterprises and the Marlamanu team for welcoming this collaboration, and to Gro Foundation, Shire of Broome and Woodside Energy for making it possible. Follow The Skill Engineer for updates as the week unfolds. https://lnkd.in/gaH36fM #TheSkillEngineer #SkilledCreative #Kimberley #OnCountryLearning #YouthArts

  • The Skill Engineer participated in the Toyota Community Trust Beneficiary Day at the Toyota Centre of Excellence this week! Through the support of Toyota Community Trust, we have delivered Second Gear: Shifting to Success in Broome, a hands-on e-bike program where young people design and build their own bikes from the ground up. The initiative integrates technical skill development with mentorship and applied learning, creating meaningful pathways for engagement for young people involved in the criminal justice system, as well as those requiring an alternative approach to education. The day also offered valuable insight into Toyota’s work in hydrogen innovation, alongside its broader commitment to translating production system methodologies into the social impact sector to strengthen organisational capability and outcomes. It was a well-considered forum for exchange, showcasing the breadth and diversity of work being undertaken nationally by beneficiary organisations to drive meaningful social impact. Thank you to TSE Directors Brendan and Eve Ritchens for representing The Skill Engineer and contributing to the dialogue. This program would not be possible without the support of Toyota, Gro Foundation, and Western Australia Police Force. Toyota Australia Toyota of Melbourne

  • Huge congratulations to our eight recent Second Gear graduates - Teshawn, Rory, Chevy, Scotty, Solomon, Jack, Jimahl and Tehran, who have each designed and built their own custom e-bike this term. Their creativity and persistence has seen them strip down lost and stolen bikes from WA Police, weld and rebuild frames, and turn them into fully functioning custom e-bikes, building mechanical and fabrication skills along the way. As we wrap up in Broome for the year and close for the wet season, we want to acknowledge our local team for the daily support and mentoring you’ve provided these young men. This work is only possible thanks to the support of our funders and partners: Kimberley District - WA Police Force, Gro Foundation, Shire of Broome and Broome International Airport, alongside Broome Youth and Families Hub and trainers Dave and Grant for White Card and First Aid delivery. If you missed it, the cohort was recently featured in the Broome Advertiser: https://lnkd.in/gcFx3zNq Beautiful photos by KS Media.
