OVERVIEW
As one of Germany's largest media organizations, FUNKE Mediengruppe supports a hybrid workforce distributed across multiple countries and approximately 100 remote sites. Its journalists and employees require secure, reliable access to applications and data from virtually anywhere, including highly challenging locations. After experiencing security concerns and scalability limitations with a legacy VPN solution, FUNKE selected Fortinet Unified SASE to unify networking and security, improve user experience, and simplify administration.
Challenge
- A legacy VPN solution presented security concerns and struggled to scale as the number of remote users increased.
- The company required secure, reliable connectivity for a highly distributed workforce that frequently accesses resources from remote and challenging environments.
- IT teams needed a solution that could integrate with cloud services and identity management platforms while reducing management complexity and administrative overhead.
Solution
- Deployed FortiSASE to replace a legacy VPN solution for secure remote access.
- Integrated FortiSASE with the existing Fortinet Secure SD-WAN environment as part of a unified networking and security architecture.
- Implemented Fortinet Unified SASE services, including ZTNA, Secure Web Gateway (SWG), CASB, and Firewall-as-a-Service (FWaaS).
Results
- Employees gained faster, more reliable access to business-critical applications and resources, improving productivity across the organization.
- Enhanced security reduced the risk of data leakage, service interruptions, and serious cyber breaches.
- Centralized visibility and management increased operational efficiency and freed IT staff to focus on supporting business initiatives rather than troubleshooting.
