Free Professional Development Workshop
What changes when girls and other young people know they belong?
They take more risks. They build stronger relationships. They bring more of themselves into the room.
Creating Communities of Belonging is a free, interactive professional development workshop that gives educators and youth-serving professionals practical tools to create spaces where all young people, especially those most marginalized — feel seen, valued, and connected.
Through Girls Leadership’s SEL approach and curriculum, you’ll explore how belonging creates the foundation young people need to build healthy relationships, develop confidence, and exercise the power of their voice.
What You’ll Experience
You’ll experience how to bring SEL strategies into your own classroom, team, or youth-serving space.
Together, we’ll practice tools that help you:
- Create community agreements that foster trust and connection
- Use meaningful check-ins to build empathy and strengthen relationships
- Support young people in recognizing and navigating moments of anxiety
- Build environments where young people feel safer taking healthy risks
You’ll also experience Girls Leadership’s Relax, Risk, & Reckless activity, which helps adults and young people recognize when they feel comfortable, when they feel emotionally unsafe, and where the powerful middle ground of growth can happen.
What Makes This Workshop Different?
Belonging starts with connection.
Young people are more likely to participate, take healthy risks, and build meaningful relationships when they see the adults in the room modeling the same behaviors.
That’s why we don’t start with asking young people to speak louder or participate more. We start by training adults on how to create the conditions that help young people feel safe enough to show up.
In this interactive training, you’ll learn about our approach to Social Emotional Learning and and experience Girls Leadership practices that center connection, identity, emotional awareness, and community — giving you tools you can use right away with the young people you serve.
What You’ll Walk Away With
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have:
- Practical tools for creating stronger, more connected communities
- Strategies for supporting emotional awareness and helping young people navigate moments of discomfort and growth
- Activities that invite different ways of participating, giving more young people opportunities to engage
- A deeper understanding of belonging as the foundation for voice, confidence, relationships, and leadership
Join us and take the first step toward creating a community where every kind of powerful can thrive.

What Participants Are Saying:
“Sweet, connected space. Especially appreciated your explicit explanations of how you are using trauma-informed practices. This is good learning to understand how that is done in practice, not just words. Thank you!”
“This was extremely thought-provoking and has really made me think about how I will interact with Black and Latinx girls in the future. The workshop also helped me understand different types of bias and to be aware of my own blind spots.”
“The push has been all around trauma-informed care… To think about extending it and considering healing-centered is eye opening.”
Cost
This workshop is offered at NO COST.
