  • More than 60% of catering orders include at least one dietary preference. One guest wants extra protein, one is vegetarian, one is avoiding an allergen. A single fixed menu can't please that room but a build-your-own bar can. Think components instead of combinations. Most operators already make everything a bar needs; it's a packaging and portioning question more than anything. A few that work well for fall: • Chili bar: bases + proteins + toppings + cornbread • Mac and cheese bar: pasta + sauces + proteins + crunchy toppings • Harvest grain bowl bar: grains + roasted vegetables + proteins + dressings Compartmented platters, portion cups, and clear bowls keep components separate in transit, easy to identify on the table, and easier to label for allergens. More component-menu ideas (taco, pasta, breakfast bars) are in our free 2026 guide: https://ow.ly/yUIK50ZSqIu

  • Today is World Food Day, and this year’s theme is “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.” Hundreds of millions of people face hunger, while much of the food the world produces goes uneaten. Closing that gap takes innovation at every step, including the ones people rarely see. In foodservice, one of those steps is the packaging. Keeping food fresh, safe, and intact from the kitchen to the customer means more meals arrive as intended, and fewer are wasted. We’re one part of a much bigger system, and we’re committed to keep innovating for it. #WorldFoodDay #FoodWaste #FoodPackaging

  • The person who orders lunch for 40 has one job: make sure it's not a problem. Whether food arrives hot, looks good enough to put in front of a client, and can be arranged in one call is the whole decision. That's why packaging is part of customer acquisition. Food that arrives sealed, stacked and looking the way the kitchen plated it says something about the caterer behind the meal, to every guest in the room, including the ones who'll be ordering next time. Clear dome lids, secure locks and stackable platters are how a drop-off order becomes a referral. • Every food packaging decision starts with a question about the food. Does it need grease resistance? A moisture or oxygen barrier? Can it go in the microwave? How long does it need to stay fresh? Those answers matter for sustainability too. If a package protects food less well, more of it gets thrown away, and that waste can outweigh the benefit of the material switch. In Recycling Today, Venu Eleswarapu, Senior Director, Center for Innovation at Sabert, explains why we start with the food and stay open on the material: plastic, molded fiber or paperboard, whichever the application actually calls for. • Workplace catering is now becoming a weekly line item. As companies work to make in-office days worth the commute, food has become one of the easiest ways to do it. Team lunches, morning meetings, the "who brought snacks?" afternoons… catering is officially working overtime. For operators, the move is to build packages around occasions that already repeat, like breakfast meetings, training sessions, and new-hire onboarding.
