Today, on International Day of Rural Women, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the women who play such an important role in our farming and rural communities. We were proud to recently bring women from across the wider agri-food community together to connect, share experiences and hear from those helping to shape the future of the sector - right here in West Cork. It was a special reminder of the strength, skill and leadership women bring to our industry and to communities across West Cork and beyond.

Hydration is growing. But what about taste? Higher electrolyte concentrations can create an unwanted salty taste, making it challenging to deliver the refreshing flavour profiles consumers expect. At Synergy Europe, we’ve developed a new Salt Masker designed to reduce the perception of salty taste in hydration and electrolyte applications. Could our new solution support your next formulation? “It’s very rewarding to go out to your cows, morning and evening, and they’re full and content.” For Cabery supplier Tomás White, farming is built around care, consistency and taking each day as it comes. His advice to others considering their own path in farming is simple: “Just take it step by step, you’ll be fine.” Through Shared Futures, we are proud to highlight the people, experiences and pathways that are shaping the future of farming in West Cork. From succession and farm transfer to leasing, partnerships and other collaborative models, there are many different ways to plan for what comes next. This work is part of Carbery’s wider commitment to supporting our farmer shareholders, encouraging generational renewal and helping build a resilient future for dairy farming in West Cork and across Ireland.

Women have always played an important role in farming, food and rural communities, but that contribution hasn’t always had the visibility it deserves. That was really the thinking behind our Leading the Way: Women Driving Innovation, Farming & Food event, marking the UN International Year of the Woman Farmer. More than 160 people joined us in West Cork to hear from Eilis Mahon, Nicole Keohane, Aoife Dullea and our own Aine Hallihan, with Sarah McIntosh leading the conversation. And it was a great conversation!! Honest experiences, plenty of laughs and lots of very simple, practical advice about careers, farming, family, leadership and taking opportunities when they come. The idea for the day came from Caroline O’Donovan, Marguerite Crowley, Caroline O’Neill and Vanessa Kiley O’Connor, who felt this was a conversation worth having. Thank you for starting it. And thank you to everyone who came along, as well as Macra, Dairy Women Ireland, Marie Keating Foundation, HSE and ICOS for joining us on the day. If you’d like to hear the conversation for yourself, you can watch the full panel here: https://lnkd.in/dUg7hEga

David has been a wonderful addition to our Ballineen team!!
Congratulations to David who started his first paid job with Carbery Group in early September. David works as a collaboration kitchen assistant. His tasks include weighing cheese, grating cheese and making pizzas. When the pizzas are cooked, David must test the quality of the cheese across three categories and of course ensure that they taste good! David is thoroughly enjoying being part of the Carbery Group team and we look forward to his progression over the coming months. Through the process David was supported by our Employment Support Specialist Sheila Dineen and our Employment Support Team Lead Margaret Greaney. Congratulations David, so well deserved! Thank you to the wonderful team Carbery Group for the support throughout the process and for the welcome extended to David over the last number of weeks Special thanks to Fiona Rawlinson (O'Keeffe) Aishling Goulden @Edel Coffee and of course to Zoe Doyle and Shaunagh O' Driscoll who work alongside David in the kitchen.

At Shinagh Farm, new technologies are being tested to explore how more value can be created from grass and support more sustainable farming. Ireland’s first on-farm grass biorefinery and anaerobic digestion demonstration facility is helping us understand how grass can be used beyond its important role as livestock feed. The facility will test how grass can be processed into a range of potential outputs, including livestock feed, protein and biobased ingredients, renewable energy and nutrient-rich material. Testing this technology on a working farm allows us to build practical evidence and better understand what these opportunities could mean for Carbery farmers and the wider agri-food sector. Thank you to everyone involved in supporting this work.

GlasPort Bio was delighted to show Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon and his Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine colleagues Karl Walsh and Patrick Barrett the #GasAbate system installed on Carbery Group Farm Zero C at Shinagh Farm yesterday. Together with support from Stewart Gee and the team at Climate KIC, Carbery is rolling out the #GasAbate system onto even more farms in west Cork this autumn. The early validation from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine projects MethAbate and LabMacc sowed the seeds of the farm-scale greenhouse gas reduction technology that is being rolled out today across Ireland and Europe. It's a win for the environment and a win for the farmers who are leading the way by cutting their farm emissions while making best use of valuable farm nutrients and reducing the need for artificial fertiliser. The performance nutrition category is being surrounded, not replaced. Are you building for both? Only 23% of consumers use sports nutrition for intensive exercise. 62% use it for casual activity, and around 70% expect more than one benefit from a single product. Our new Horizon 10 report, The Future of Performance Nutrition, reads sixteen signals of change and sets out what each could look like by 2035. It was developed with input from industry experts and customers across the category, alongside global market and consumer data, so the view is grounded in what people building in this space are actually seeing. The consumer who trains hard is still the highest-frequency user and still sets the category's credibility. What has changed is everything now growing around them. Minister Martin Heydon opens Ireland’s first on-farm integrated grass-biorefinery and anaerobic-digestion demonstration plant. The €3m facility is part of the Farm Zero C project on Shinagh Estate’s dairy farm in Co. Cork and will process fresh grass to produce a range of new, high-value products The facility will also be used by Rural BioReFarmeries, a project coordinated by Munster Technological University and supported with approximately €7.35 million in EU funding through CBE JU, to assess the model’s potential for replication across European grassland regions. 👉https://lnkd.in/d7bM6T6F
