About us

GADR is an independent, non-profit umbrella organisation dedicated to strengthening, promoting and advancing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Institutionally based in India with a global outlook, GADR brings together practitioners, academics, institutions, policymakers, judges, lawyers, mediators and arbitrators within a common framework. We create meaningful connections across the ADR ecosystem through professional engagement, knowledge exchange, capacity building and international collaboration — strengthening professional standards, developing opportunities for emerging ADR professionals, and enhancing the participation of Indian practitioners in the global dispute resolution community. GADR operates through two constituent wings, with the Society providing the overarching institutional and governance framework: Association of Mediators (AoM) - our specialised mediation wing, bringing together a panel of empanelled mediators. AoM drives professional development, training and certification for mediators, and works to build awareness, accessibility and institutional growth for mediation in India post the Mediation Act, 2023. Young GADR (YGADR) - our platform for students, young lawyers and emerging ADR practitioners. YGADR builds India's peer community for the next generation of ADR professionals through mentorship, research, publications, competitions and networking opportunities. Focus areas: Arbitration, mediation and conciliation Professional development and capacity building Training, mentorship and education Research, scholarship and thought leadership Institutional and international collaboration Engagement with young and emerging ADR professionals Strengthening India's participation in the global ADR community Registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

  • Students and young professionals today have far greater access to learning in ADR, yet they seldom get to hear first-hand how a career in the field actually takes shape. Through #YoungGADRCareerTalks, we bring together professionals from institutions, academia and practice to share how they began, the choices that shaped their paths, and practical guidance for those starting out. The webinar is meant for students, young practitioners, young ADR members and anyone who wants to start a career in ADR. We are delighted to announce that Ms. Devna Arora, Deputy Head (South Asia) at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), is joining us as a panellist. Prior to joining SIAC, Ms. Arora was a Partner at a leading law firm in New Delhi. She graduated from the National Law University, Delhi in 2013, and was awarded the International Arbitration Scholarship by Georgetown University, where she completed her LLM in International Legal Studies. • 𝐀 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨. India’s ADR community has been built by many people and institutions. Judges who championed mediation and arbitration from the bench. Practitioners who showed, case after case, what effective dispute resolution looks like. Institutions that gave the field its structure and credibility. Teachers who trained generations of students to think differently about conflict. 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲. 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. We are building on that foundation, with our own energy, ideas and global perspective. 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐢𝐦: 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝, 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲-𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬. Too often, the path into ADR is unclear. We want to make it easier to learn, to practise, and to find people who will walk alongside you. There is a lot we want to share, but we would rather introduce ourselves properly than rush it. 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰, 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨. Follow along, and join us when we do. 𝐆𝐀𝐃𝐑 | 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬. • 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? Arbitration is widely used to resolve commercial disputes. But what do the people who actually use it think? 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟭 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟬 in-house counsel in a recent survey said they would use arbitration for all their disputes. Most would use it only for some disputes, and their reasons are worth reading closely. Among in-house counsel who would use arbitration selectively, the biggest concerns were: 𝟳𝟯%: high and unpredictable costs 𝟲𝟬%: long and uncertain duration 𝟱𝟰%: lack of arbitrator accountability Cost. Time. Accountability. These are not concerns about anything outside the process. They are about how arbitration itself works for the people using it. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗼.
