A business name is more than a brand - it can shape how the public understands the services an entity provides and its regulatory status. The Authority recently issued a revised Regulatory Policy on Applications for the Use of Restricted Words, providing updated guidance on how applications are assessed under the relevant Regulatory Acts. The policy outlines important considerations for entities planning to use restricted words in their names or business descriptions, including: ➡️ How closely a proposed name resembles an existing entity and whether it could cause confusion. ➡️ Whether a name could imply a connection to Government, an authority or royalty, or suggest that an entity is regulated when it is not. ➡️ How the proposed use of a restricted word aligns with the entity’s actual or intended activities, particularly where those activities resemble regulated services. ➡️ The information and supporting documents applicants must provide, including the proposed word, reasons for its use and details of the business activities. 𝐀 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲: Unregulated entities must obtain CIMA’s approval before using a restricted word. Use without prior approval may constitute an offence under the relevant Regulatory Acts. The revised Policy takes effect from the date of gazettement (7 October 2026). Industry stakeholders are encouraged to review the revised Policy to understand the assessment criteria and application requirements. 🔗 Read the full Policy: https://lnkd.in/grCFsZNQ #CIMA #CaymanIslands #FinancialRegulation #RegulatoryCompliance #CorporateGovernance

As digital assets continue to reshape financial services, clear regulatory expectations are essential to supporting innovation while safeguarding investor interests. The Authority has published a new Policy for the Approval of Tokenised Funds, outlining criteria of how registration and licensing applications will be assessed when investment funds propose to use tokenisation. Key expectations industry stakeholders should keep top of mind: ➡️ Ensuring tokenised interests provide legally enforceable rights and investor protection. ➡️ Maintaining clear oversight and responsibility for fund operations, including outsourced arrangements. ➡️ Maintaining accurate recordkeeping and transparency of investors’ interests. ➡️ Establishing safeguards against over-issuance and maintaining the integrity of fund valuations. ➡️ Addressing tokenisation-related risks and ensuring transfers and redemptions align with regulatory requirements. As World Investor Week comes to a close, today's message is simple: take your time, ask questions and do your homework. Tyana Walton - Notary Public, Bsc, MBA, MSHR, CBPPM, CRCMP of #CIMA’s Securities Supervision Division shares an important reminder: “True investor resilience means approaching every opportunity with skepticism. Watch for red flags, verify who you’re dealing with, and take the time to conduct proper due diligence. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.” Empowered investors make informed decisions and help build stronger, more resilient markets. Thanks to everyone who followed along with us to celebrate the 10th anniversary of World Investor Week. #WorldInvestorWeek #IOSCOWIW2026 #SmartInvestor #InvestorEducation #CaymanIslands #FinancialServices

Looks can be deceiving, particularly in today’s digital environment. Lisha Ferguson of #CIMA’s Securities Supervision Division reminds investors to look beyond appearances: “Professional appearance does not necessarily mean an investment opportunity is legit. As digital deception becomes increasingly sophisticated, investors should look beyond appearances, verify claims through official sources, and understand the risks before committing your money.” Innovation matters - but protecting investors matters most. #WorldInvestorWeek #IOSCOWIW2026 #SmartInvestor #InvestorEducation #CaymanIslands #FinancialServices
