Patron-driven Acquisition Scheme
Cartoon strip poster for the Inner Temple Library's Patron Driven Acquisition Scheme. A user is having a conversation with a librarian about it. Text on the top row reads from left to right: (Image 1, the user asks the librarian a question) "I've checked all the shelved and I can't find the book I'm after. I really need to get hold of it. Do you have it?'. (Image 2, the librarian replies) 'I'm afraid we don't. Why don't you submit a patron-driven acquisition request? It's just a simple online form to fill in. You tell us why you need it and if it meets the scheme's criteria we automatically purchase it'. (Image 3, the user is writing these words on the screen) 'It would be great if you could get this book. It looks as though it would have just the thing I need. Plus I think other people will find it interesting too. Submit'. Text on the bottom row reads from right to left: (Image 4, the librarian says to themselves) 'Oh great. This book has arrived. I'll send an email to let the user know it's here!'. (Image 5, the user says to themselves) 'Well, that was easy. Thanks, Inner'. (Image 6, another librarian says) 'The patron-driven acquisition scheme was set up so we can be more responsive to user needs. (Name's a bit wordy, I know. We're working on somethin snappier!)'. Picture in the middle at the bottom is a checklist and the text reads (from top to bottom): 'Member of an Inn of Court. Current, relevant legal work. Not in the collection already. Does not exceed the price cap. Stamp of approval. Other T&Cs may apply.'. Hyperlink for Terms and conditions is https://tinyurl.com/pdatocs.
Our Patron-Driven Acquisition Scheme is intended to be responsive to the needs of Inner Temple Library users if they discover a book that they need is not available in the Library collection. All requests meeting the criteria will be automatically purchased whilst funds remain available.
