We are a global mission-driven organization dedicated to a more efficient and zero-emissions global logistics sector.
Over ons
Smart Freight Centre was founded in 2013 with a bold vision, a small team of dedicated people, and a mission that was ahead of its time: to make freight part of the climate solution. Fast forward to today, we’ve grown into a global non-profit organization with more than 80 employees and a thriving network of 200 members working together to decarbonize freight transportation worldwide. Why We Exist Our vision is a zero-emission global logistics sector by 2050 or earlier, aligned with a 1.5°C climate pathway. To get there, our mission is to accelerate the reduction of logistics emissions by fostering collaboration within the global logistics ecosystem. We believe that collective action is the only path forward. That’s why our work focuses on: -Enabling performance measurement of logistics GHG emissions to drive transparency and accountability -Facilitating solution pathways and catalyzing partnerships across the value chain -Educating and scaling up organizations to accelerate the uptake of decarbonization solutions Our programs and partnerships are designed to turn ambition into action—empowering our members to lead by example, improve emissions performance, and create lasting change in the freight sector. Why Join the SFC Community Becoming a member of Smart Freight Centre means joining a growing global network of organizations committed to advancing freight decarbonization. Members gain access to our portfolio of technical programs, working groups, tools, training, and pilot projects designed to help them collaborate, innovate, and implement strategies that reduce emissions and improve supply chain economics. Together, we are building a freight system that works for people, planet, and business.

Charging remains one of the biggest challenges to scaling electric trucks. But what happens when infrastructure, freight demand, and motivated carriers come together in the right place? The new MercaValencia charging site offers a glimpse of how we can move from early-stage deployment to electric freight at scale. Read the full article to explore what this means for the future of zero-emission road freight.

From roadmap to action in Rotterdam. Last week, the Electrifying Drayage Alliance brought together shippers, logistics players and solution providers in #Rotterdam for a focused discussion on what it takes to move electric drayage from ambition into implementation. The conversation was practical: where does the business case already work, what still stands in the way, and how can shippers help create the demand signal needed for carriers to invest with confidence? One simple takeaway: start asking for electric drayage options now. Even where the answer is not yet 'yes', requesting EV rates and discussing specific lanes with logistics providers helps identify where deployment can happen first and what needs to change elsewhere. EDA Rotterdam is now moving into implementation and we are looking to bring more companies into the coalition - particularly shippers, LSPs, carriers and infrastructure partners ready to help translate the roadmap into real deployment. ➡️ Interested in contributing to the Rotterdam coalition? How do you weigh carbon against cost in a tender? And why do emission factors for the same fuel vary so widely between sources? These are two of the questions Violetta Matzoros and Mehul Khandelwal will be tackling at the Supply Chain Sustainability & Decarbonization Forum in Amsterdam next month. Violetta, Senior Technical Manager for Digitalisation & Decarbonisation, is speaking on carbon as a procurement criterion: how companies are embedding carbon intensity into supplier performance & selection. She also joins the panel on Supplier Engagement at Scale, sharing incentives and governance mechanisms to improve supplier data sharing. Mehul, Technical Project Lead for Fuel & Air Pollutants Emission Factors, is speaking on the numbers behind green logistics: why emission factors for alternative fuels vary so widely, what lifecycle emissions really look like for electric freight, hydrogen and SAF, and how the CLEVER database and CountEmissions Directive will reshape Scope 3 reporting. He also joins the panel on what double materiality requires in practice under CSRD. 📅 18–19 November 2026 📍 Steigenberger Airport Hotel, Amsterdam If you're attending, come find them.
