  • If your service page promises “a seamless process”, can a prospective client see how it works? You know who manages a project like the back of your hand - who does what where, how feedback is handled and what happens if something changes (or goes wrong). A new visitor has none of that context. A few details can give your service promises more substance: → Promise a website that’s easy to manage? Show the editing experience. → Promise thoughtful strategy? Explain a decision behind a relevant project. → Promise clear communication? Include a specific client testimonial that speaks to it. Put that evidence beside the claim it supports. Give the reader something useful to assess while the question is in their mind. Try this: find the strongest promise on your main service page. What would someone need to see to believe it?

  • A website redesign brief can start with the wrong diagnosis. “We need something more modern” describes how the site feels. It leaves the underlying problem open. An established business might have outgrown its positioning. Its services might be difficult to understand. The evidence a buyer needs might be buried. The enquiry process might ask for too much, too soon - these are useful things to establish before choosing a new visual direction. Before briefing a redesign, work through four questions: 1. Can the right buyer recognise that this is for them? 2. Can they understand the offer and its value? 3. Can they find the information they need to make a decision? 4. Is the next step clear and straightforward? A practical starting point: open your site on your phone and follow the route from the homepage to an enquiry about your main service. Notice where you have to interpret, search or backtrack. Doing this won’t tell you everything but it will give you a more specific brief than “make it look better”. A redesign may still be the right investment into your business infrastructure but you’ll be 100% clearer about what it needs to achieve. • Conference stands are more than just large-scale signage, they help thousands of people navigate a space, find their place, connect with ideas and leave with a lasting impression. The Quantum Australia Conference was one of those projects. From conference branding and merchandise through to wayfinding and signage, every detail played a role in shaping the experience. The best conference design isn't necessarily the loudest thing in the room, it's the design that makes everything feel seamless. #conferencedesign #eventsignage #wayfinding #expo #events

  • A website should reflect the reputation that's already been earned. SB Appliance Servicing has spent more than 10 years building trust across Auckland and newly launched in Christchurch, with over 240 Google reviews from customers who know they can count on them. The challenge wasn't creating credibility, it was creating a website that clearly and cleanly communicated it. The redesign focused on making it easier for customers to find the service they need, understand what's covered and take action quickly, especially on mobile where most visitors are browsing.

  • Pleased to share a recent Gem Media project - a new website for SB Appliance Servicing & Repair, a whiteware and electrical appliance repair business operating across Auckland and Christchurch. SBA has over 10 years of experience across over 220 Google reviews. They had the reputation - now a website that reflects it. The brief was straightforward: build a clean, professional website that earns the same trust their technicians do in person. Clean layout, clear service structure and optimised for local SEO. Built on Squarespace. Now live. #webdesign #gemmedia #aucklandbusiness #christchurchbusiness #smallbusinessnz

  • Introducing Aura - a Squarespace 7.1 website template designed for modern beauty and wellness brands. Aura was built for founders who are done with cluttered, overdesigned websites that dilute their positioning. This template is intentionally minimal. Not because it’s simple - but because it’s strategic. It’s designed for skincare brands, estheticians, plastic surgeons, and beauty professionals who want their digital presence to reflect what they already are in real life: established, credible and high-trust. Every layout choice inside Aura is intentional: • to increase perceived authority • to elevate brand clarity • to support conversion without feeling salesy • to create a calm, premium user experience In beauty and aesthetics, trust is the product before the product. Aura was built to communicate that trust instantly. Now available for preview. If your current website feels like it’s holding your brand back rather than elevating it, this is your sign to rethink the experience you’re offering online.

  • There’s a reason this quote has lasted. It’s not about being “on” all the time, it’s about building the kind of capacity that holds before you actually need it. A lot of businesses feel stable right now simply because they’re not under pressure yet. But when things grow - more clients, more visibility, more demand - that’s when the truth shows up. If you’re not prepared for that level, it doesn’t just feel overwhelming, it can actively damage the business. Missed delivery. Burnout. Clients leaving. Reputation taking a hit. Not because growth is bad but because the business was never built to sustain it. The goal was never to stay in the calm, it was to be ready for what happens when you’re not.

  • Designed for restaurants that understand their digital presence is part of the experience. This Squarespace template was created for brands where detail matters. Where the ambience, the menu, the space and the online presence all speak the same language. Clean, considered and built to feel elevated without overcomplication. Because when your brand is positioned well your website doesn’t just showcase it sets the tone before your guests even arrive. Available now via the shop 💌

  • I often get asked what the hardest part of running a digital studio is. Surprisingly it’s not the design or the technology. The real challenge is the discipline required to build a business that doesn’t rely on you every minute of the day. Over time I’ve learned that systems beat talent, structure beats chaos and consistency beats bursts of inspiration. Creative energy can carry a studio for a while but sustainable businesses are built on repeatable systems and a clear operating structure. Gem Media has been built on one core principle: design a business you don’t need to holiday from. Now we help our clients do the same, that’s the real luxury.

  • A lot of founders think branding means a logo but if you removed the logo completely, could people still describe your brand? Red Bull → adrenaline Harley-Davidson → freedom Summer Fridays → calm minimalism GOOP → luxury wellness That recognition didn’t come from just a logo but are overtime built through consistent signals: • the imagery they curate • the experiences they design • the language they use • the communities they attract Over time those signals form a perception and that perception becomes the brand.
