Changing someone's byline to reflect their chosen name is basic human decency and the fact that it's at all controversial at the Times says absolutely horrifying things about your ability to report fairly on trans people.
Trans journalist here. Have bylines under dead name with Boston Globe, Milford Daily News, and others. Updating those bylines retroactively would allow me to acknowledge the existence of those articles as part of my professional history
Wouldn't they have to actually hire some trans journalists first
