Isobel Diamond speaks with Louise Newson , Jessica Shepherd, MD, MBA, FACOG , and sharon gavin to explore how Gen X women are redefining healthspan over lifespan. They unpack how brands can support midlife women through better-designed products, accessible health tools, and proactive care. Why are audiences walking away from traditional Oscar bait? The old formula for prestige cinema, calculated tragic tropes, historical checklists, and aiming for industry approval, is falling flat. Instead, viewers across the US are turning up for originality, genre-blending stories like Sinners and Weapons, and the simple pull of a shared experience in a dark room. Cultural researcher Tessa Love spoke with Jonathan Gray and Caetlin Benson-Allott to discuss what actually gives a film cultural weight right now. They unpack why taste is shifting away from polished studio formulas and how audiences are taking the authority to decide what deserves prestige into their own hands. It is a big shift for entertainment and media brands, changing how stories need to be framed to build real cultural weight. Our own SVP, Strategy, Kari O’Neill, was one of the expert strategists involved in studying Gen Alpha's coffee experience. Marketers need to pay attention to how their attitudes affect their own categories, as well.
Gen Alpha is actively reshaping US coffee culture around identity and experimentation. As young consumers look for drinks that align with their diet, mood, and visual aesthetic, traditional beverage formats are losing ground. They are demanding bold flavor combinations, functional ingredients, and hyper-customized options that feel tailored to the individual. The challenge for brands isn't just keeping up with fast-moving viral drink trends. It's building the operational and product flexibility needed to support continuous personalization and genuine utility. Our latest report explores what it takes for beverage brands to build long-term relevance with this cohort as their purchasing power grows. https://lnkd.in/e3RxjJR3

It's been a whirlwind few weeks! It started with speaking about "When to Act on Cultural Shifts" at Advertising Week NYC—such an amazing session that the Canvas8 team helped me put together. My presentation gave the audience a real, tangible framework to decipher what's just noise versus what they actually need to pay attention to. That was followed by our in-person breakfast briefing with some great Canvas8 clients later that week, and then client field work in LA last week! Needless to say, I'm tired, but it's been so great spending time with our clients in person.

What a whirlwind few weeks connecting with our partners in person! 💫 Still buzzing from an incredible Advertising Week, sitting front row for Sarah Mohsen's “When To Act on Cultural Shifts” keynote, and catching so many brilliant panels from our partners at SHADOW, .Monks, Bose, Paramount, Dentsu, TikTok and more. Not to mention an unforgettable Breakfast Briefing at Moss NYC alongside Princeton neuroscientist Matt Alden Johnson, PhD. Sitting around the table with our senior members to unpack Canvas8’s 2027 Expert Outlook theme: The Unburdening made for some of the richest conversations of the year. As consumers actively strip away algorithmic friction and complexity, the brands that win will be the ones that deliver true clarity and lightness.💡 Want to dive deeper? ➡️ Drop me a note if you’d like a copy of the “How To Spot Cultural Shifts” presentation or want a seat at the table for our next executive briefing. ➡️ Check out our brand-new report built directly off the back of our roundtable discussion here: https://lnkd.in/ekpwJbXY I’d love to hear your thoughts on The Unburdening -- how is your team preparing for this shift? 👇 #CulturalIntelligence #AdvertisingWeek #ExpertOutlook2027 #TheUnburdening #ConsumerBehavior #Canvas8

Why has hustling gone from an inner-city survival tactic to the default mindset of modern work? When hard work stops guaranteeing a decent, stable life, people start looking for wilder breakthroughs. Across 28 countries, nearly 70% of people do not think the next generation will be better off. That baseline anxiety is why so many people are turning to high-risk bets and non-stop side hustles just to feel like they are getting anywhere. In our latest report, Insights Editor Shom Mabaquiao sits down with criminologist Jonathan Ilan to break down how "hustle culture" often blurs the line between ambition and exploitation, and how brands can respond by offering realistic, reliable paths to real security rather than another get-rich promise. Having 50 options used to feel like a premium feature. Today, sifting through endless product lines just feels like unpaid admin. Abundance has turned choice from an advantage into a barrier. As decision fatigue sets in across categories, the brands winning market share are not expanding their ranges. They are curating shortlists and actively taking routine decisions off the customer's plate. In her latest Inside Culture article, Senior Commissioning Editor Leah Sinclair breaks down the boundary between helpful delegation and over-automation. She maps where brands can strip out low-value friction, and where they must preserve human agency and taste. https://lnkd.in/ewssY3C4

In 2027, after years of overstimulation and choice overload, consumers are burnt out by aspirational marketing and the constant pressure to self-optimise. Instead of striving for an idealised future, people are actively retreating: offloading daily decisions, stripping away digital noise, and looking for breathing room. We call this cultural shift "The Unburdening". For brands, it means the push for "more" is now a liability; the most valuable thing you can offer in 2027 is lightness, validation, and reduced friction. To map how this shift is playing out across commercial categories and macro systems, Expert Outlook 2027 combines cross-sector data with frontline insights from 50 global experts, sector specialists, and cultural commentators. Inside the Expert Outlook 2027 Experience, you get complete access to: - Deep-dive analysis across 15 commercial sectors, from beauty and retail to money, tech, and travel - Strategic frameworks to identify where your brand can simplify customer touchpoints and reduce cognitive load - Instant Analyst, an AI-backed tool trained on our research to help you pressure-test briefs, campaign ideas, and audience shifts in seconds Get access to Expert Outlook 2027 to plan, stress-test, and refine your 2027 strategy before budgets lock: https://lnkd.in/e4Mmv3mA #ExpertOutlook2027 #Strategy #Planning #ConsumerInsights #Canvas8

When AI gives everyone the same baseline inputs, every strategy starts looking like a carbon copy. So where do you actually find original, un-copyable insight today? That’s what Canvas8 Senior Insights Editor Anastasiia Fedorova will be exploring at WIN LDN’s 10th Anniversary Unconference on Friday 23 October. Joining Amy Daroukakis, Asha Dinesh, and Gemma Stafford for the afternoon panel, Our world: Where and how to find and embrace difference in your work, they’ll be unpacking: -Where do we find insight that cannot be copied? - What should we never stop doing ourselves? -And how do we make room for ideas that do not look obvious at first? Get your ticket here: https://lnkd.in/gvb2uCci (Want a discount code? Comment 'Culture' below and we’ll send it straight to your inbox.)
