On this day in 1973, the Queen officially opened the Sydney Opera House. It had been started in 1959, was meant to take around four years, and came in roughly ten years late and many times over budget. Somewhere, there is a filing cabinet with all of that in it. Big projects generate big paper trails, and most of it has to be kept long after the ribbon is cut. Project archives stored, indexed and retrieved on request: https://www.evastore.co.uk

The least glamorous part of document scanning is the part that matters most. Before a single page goes through the scanner, our team takes out the staples, unfolds the corners, straightens the pages and repositions the sticky notes, by hand. Then everything is scanned in bulk and indexed however suits you: by name, file number or your own reference. You hand over boxes. You get back searchable files. We do the fiddly bit in between: https://www.evastore.co.uk

Meanwhile, in the EvaStore canteen. Marvin's lunch today: a plate of USB sticks, crunched one at a time, with a nice cup of tea. He's not fussy. USB sticks, hard drives, CDs, tapes. If it holds data you no longer need, Marvin will destroy it securely and we will hand you a certificate to prove it. Book Marvin a table: https://www.evastore.co.uk

A fact of no practical use to you whatsoever. People ask how long GDPR says to keep records. It does not say. Anywhere. There are 99 articles and not one retention period. Article 5(1)(e) just says personal data should be kept no longer than is necessary for the purpose it was collected for. The actual numbers come from other places: HMRC, employment law, sector regulators, your own retention schedule. We know all of this anyway. Storage with retention dates and certified destruction when they arrive: https://www.evastore.co.uk

Every box that comes into EvaStore is barcoded, logged and tracked from the moment it arrives. He asked for a go. We gave him the scanner. We did not switch it on. He still missed the last one. A member of staff went round afterwards and did the whole shelf properly. Please don't tell him, he's very proud. Every file tracked, down to the shelf, by people who know what they're doing: https://www.evastore.co.uk

On this day in 1884, delegates from 25 nations meeting in Washington voted for Greenwich as the prime meridian. Zero degrees longitude, the line everything else is measured from. France abstained and kept using Paris for years afterwards. Every good system needs one agreed starting point. For the world it is a line in south east London. For your records it should be one place where everything lives, logged and findable. Storage, scanning and shredding, all from one site in Shropshire: https://www.evastore.co.uk

An insolvency practice came to us with 400 boxes of case files, all with different retention periods. Rather than store them as they arrived, we re-sorted every box by its destruction date. Now, when a date comes round, the right boxes are pulled and securely shredded, with a certificate to prove it. Nothing kept too long, nothing destroyed too early. Every box is barcoded and tracked from the moment it arrives. Storage that knows what day it is: https://www.evastore.co.uk

This just in. Two firms merging this month discovered they had nineteen filing cabinets between them. Both archives have since been scanned, indexed and combined into one searchable system. Board members are said to be giddy. More on this story, and on how we can scan, index and merge yours: https://www.evastore.co.uk

Rarely filmed. Never seen coming. The Media Muncher stalks the archive in search of old hard drives, tapes and USB sticks, and destroys them securely, with a certificate for every one. Book a sighting: https://www.evastore.co.uk
