What does financial freedom mean to you? Perhaps it's owning a home, retiring comfortably, supporting your children or having the security to make important life choices. But opportunities to build that freedom are not equally distributed. Historical ONS wealth research found that Black African-headed households were significantly more likely to be in the lowest wealth groups, with 79% in the bottom two-fifths of the household wealth distribution in 2016-2018. These disparities can have consequences that extend well beyond someone's bank balance, influencing opportunities across generations. This Black History Month, we're celebrating the contributions of Black communities and recognising the importance of improving financial inclusion. Everyone should have the opportunity to work towards financial security and the freedom to shape their own future. #BlackHistoryMonthBrighton #FinancialFreedom #FinancialInclusion

The next generation of family wealth will increasingly be in women's hands. Over the next two decades, trillions of pounds are expected to pass between generations through inheritance, with women set to hold a growing proportion of the UK's wealth. But as Jo Thornhill explores in this article, Women and Wealth: A Growing Frontier, inheriting wealth and feeling confident managing it are two very different things. For many women, receiving an inheritance may be their first experience of making significant financial decisions independently. And those decisions can come at an emotionally difficult time, particularly following the loss of a parent or spouse. At JPS Wealth Management, we believe financial education and open family conversations have an important role to play in preparing the next generation. Understanding the family's financial arrangements, discussing long-term intentions and having access to trusted advice can help make the transition more manageable. As more wealth passes into female hands, ensuring women feel informed, involved and confident in their decisions has never been more important. Read the full article to explore how the changing landscape of women's wealth is shaping the future of financial advice. https://lnkd.in/eX2rK44A #WomenAndWealth #IntergenerationalWealth #FinancialPlanning

As we head into the weekend, it's a lovely reminder that some of our most important goals have very little to do with money itself. More time with the people we love. A family holiday. Being there for important milestones. Having the confidence to slow down and enjoy life. These are often the things that come up when we talk to clients about what they want their financial future to look like. And they're worth keeping in mind when making decisions about saving, retirement and long-term planning. Whatever your plans, have a wonderful weekend! #FinancialWellbeing

When it comes to your family, why not make money part of the conversation? Not a formal family meeting. Just an open conversation. Parents might talk about retirement and their plans for later life. Adult children might be saving for a first home. Teenagers could be learning to manage their own money. Grandparents may be thinking about how and when they'd like to pass wealth down. Different generations have very different financial priorities, but talking openly can help families understand and support one another. As we head towards the end of this year, perhaps one of the most valuable financial habits you can introduce is simply talking about money more often. #FamilyFinance #FinancialEducation #FinancialPlanning

What is shaping the Chancellor’s choices this autumn? The latest Budget preview looks at a challenging economic backdrop alongside new policy proposals. 🐘 Less financial flexibility: Inflation, higher borrowing costs and the Middle East conflict have reduced the government’s fiscal buffer. 🐘 Potential tax changes: Those pressures could mean difficult decisions on tax and spending. 🐘 Pensions and social care: The government has pledged to replace the State Pension triple lock from 2030 to help fund proposed free social care services in England. 🐘 Help onto the property ladder: The proposed ‘Your First Home’ scheme would provide eligible buyers with 20% government-backed equity loans, alongside deposits of at least 5%. 🐘 A brighter growth estimate: The OECD now forecasts UK growth of 1.1% in 2026, up from 0.9%. For individuals and business owners alike, the article encourages a measured approach: understand confirmed announcements before deciding how to respond. #AutumnBudget2026 #BusinessOwners #FinancialPlanning

What a brilliant day at the Sussex Business Show! On 24 September, we had the pleasure of exhibiting in Brighton and spending the day meeting business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals from across Sussex. Events like this are such a valuable opportunity to step away from the usual working day, make new connections, catch up with familiar faces and hear first-hand about the businesses being built and grown within our local community. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a conversation and to the organisers, exhibitors and wider Sussex business community for making it such an enjoyable and worthwhile event. A special mention to some of the fantastic people I had the pleasure of catching up with and meeting on the day. Looking forward to continuing the conversations! #SussexBusiness #BrightonBusiness #BusinessCommunity

One of the most difficult things to think about is a time when you are no longer able to manage your affairs yourself and you need others to help you make important decisions. There is more to a Lasting Power of Attorney than just having a long term, late life care plan in place. What happens if you find yourself dealing with an unexpected illness or accident, who would be there to make important decisions for you? An LPA will enable those given the power to make decisions about your property and financial affairs, your health and welfare, or both. It’s also important to consider having a power of attorney in place for your dependents. As your children grow and move away from home, they may not have a spouse who can act on their behalf. Or, if they are at university they will need a power of attorney in place in case they find themselves in need. When your children turn 18 you can no longer make decisions on their behalf. Lasting Power of Attorney’s work for all ages and should form an integral part of your future plan. We work with many highly experienced legal service providers who can arrange Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, and we can refer you to them when you need it. The writing of a Will or Powers of Attorney involves the referral to a service that is separate and distinct from those offered by St. James's Place. Wills and Powers of Attorney are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

None of us want to think about a time when we aren’t able to live independently, but despite being one of the most neglected aspects of financial planning, it’s one of the most important. Back in the day only wealthy people had to worry about planning how their estate would be managed after they are gone or incapacitated. Today, protection planning is an everybody problem. Protection planning covers everything from estate protection to Inheritance Tax, long term sickness protection, later life care planning and living wills and power of attorney. It’s pretty complex and requires specialist advice and experience to create a protection plan that reflects your financial needs as well as your welfare as you age. When it comes to protecting your estate (and you), we’ll give all the help, advice and support you need. The writing of a Will or Powers of Attorney involves the referral to a service that is separate and distinct from those offered by St. James’s Place. Wills and Powers of Attorney are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
