Energy scams don’t stop when the weather gets colder. As energy demand rises over winter, so can scam attempts. Stop, check and protect yourself from scams. ❄️⚠️

As Great Britain’s energy system changes, it’s important that the process for leaving the gas network works fairly for consumers. Today we’ve published our final review of the gas disconnections framework. Our findings show the current system can be confusing, inconsistent and costly for people who choose to stop using gas and switch to other heating options. We’re taking forward reforms to help give consumers clearer information, stronger protections and a more consistent experience wherever they live. Alongside these immediate improvements, we also need to think carefully about the longer-term question of how gas network costs should be shared as the system changes. Without reform, those costs risk being spread across fewer consumers This marks the end of our evidence-gathering work and the start of delivering reforms to improve outcomes for consumers. This morning, Ofgem has published a statutory consultation on a proposed change to our licence. The change is intended to enable National Gas to facilitate a proposed agreement to maintain Britain’s gas import capacity at winter 2025/2026 levels for this winter and beyond. We welcome this consultation as an important step in strengthening Britain's energy resilience and supporting security of supply. Our Winter Outlook 2026 will be published tomorrow, Friday 23 October 2026. This morning, Ofgem has published a statutory consultation on a proposed licence modification. The change is intended to enable National Gas to facilitate a proposed agreement to reinforce Britain’s gas import capability, maintaining at least Winter 2025/2026 levels for this Winter and beyond. We welcome this consultation as an important step in strengthening Britain's energy resilience and supporting security of supply. We've launched Tender Round 14 of the Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO) regime, covering the transmission assets associated with Hornsea 3, one of the world's largest offshore wind farms under construction. At around £3.44 billion, this is our largest OFTO asset tendered to date. Our competitive tender process helps attract investment in the offshore transmission infrastructure needed for a cleaner, more secure energy system, while helping ensure consumers receive value for money. Ofgem has received NESO’s account of electricity system events during the week commencing 22 June, set out in the preliminary report commissioned by Ofgem under the Terms of Reference published in July and we have set out our next steps here: https://ow.ly/3xJ550ZYXju

Today's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) decision supports Ofgem's original decision to reject a proposal that would have shifted more unexpected electricity network costs from certain electricity generators onto consumers. The outcome reinforces the importance of evidence-based regulation and gives confidence that our decisions can withstand independent scrutiny. We will continue to take decisions in the interest of consumers and robustly defend those when needed. Learn more about the decision: https://ow.ly/CR9Z50ZYUKH

Ofgem has confirmed a £642.1 million funding package for National Grid Electricity Transmission's Bramford to Twinstead project in East Anglia. The project will increase grid capacity, helping connect more homegrown renewable electricity, improve energy security and meet growing demand for power. By reducing constraints on the network, it will also help lower costs when renewable generators are paid to switch off because the grid cannot carry all the electricity they produce. To protect consumers, Ofgem challenged proposed costs and removed £60.6 million from the funding request while supporting investment in critical energy infrastructure.
