🔥 Hot off the press. 🔥 New policy brief from WHO and The Australian National University on gender, climate change and health. 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥. Its impacts on health are shaped by, and further exacerbate, existing inequalities. Our new WHO policy brief sets out practical pathways to ensure climate action is more equitable, just and effective. 8 million people were displaced by water-related disasters in 2025.💧 Floods. Cyclones. Droughts. Wildfires. Often hitting the same regions in quick succession. The Global Water Monitor’s 2025 report found: → 💔 Nearly 5,000 deaths → 🏠 Around 8 million people displaced → 💸 Economic losses above US$360 billion Researchers describe the rapid swings between wet and dry extremes as “climate whiplash”. And water hazards are now appearing in places where they were once rare: a major cyclone near the equator in Indonesia, and unprecedented glacial lake outburst floods in the Hindu Kush Himalaya. Behind every number is a community. The response has to match the scale of what’s happening to the water cycle. 📆 On 27 October, #SHEChangesClimate and SHE Changes Ocean are bringing together women leading on water to talk about what comes next. 👉 Register here: https://lnkd.in/dwmmq3hX 📊Source: Global Water Monitor 2025 Summary Report | Albert van Dijk #StillWaters #ClimateAndWater #WaterCycle

Still waters run deep. So does this problem. The water cycle as we know it is off balance. Rivers had one of their driest years in 35 years in 2025 ( World Meteorological Organization ), and a very strong El Niño is now pushing more floods and droughts toward communities already on the edge. UNICEF expects more than 347 million children in nearly 100 countries to face unusually wet or dry conditions between October and December 2026. The warnings are loud. The response has to match them. Join us for #StillWaters, a live webinar on the less-discussed impacts of climate change on the water cycle. 📅 27 October 🕦 11:30 AM CET 🎟️ Registration is open for all: https://lnkd.in/d8PD64bw SHE Changes Ocean | Gallifrey Foundation | Antoinette Vermilye (she/her) | Bianca Pitt | South Asia Young Women in Water | WaterRising Institute | @Just Futures Collab | Cristina Tebar Less

Our partnership with 15 leading NGOs to scrutinize the policies of each candidate continues with the release of in-depth analysis of the two latest entrants to the race: Ivonne A-Baki and Olara Otunnu. Published in partnership with PassBlue, the initiative provides an accessible resource for civil society representatives, member states, and the general public to understand each candidate’s vision for addressing the main policy challenges that the next Secretary-General will face. The resource has been periodically shared with those in the Security Council, who will be holding a further vote on candidates in today's straw poll. The full set of analyses across nine key topics is now available to read here: https://lnkd.in/ejfP5jC5 Massive shout out to our expert partners!: Oxfam International, ODI Global, International Peace Institute (IPI), SHE Changes Climate, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, TAP Network, GQUAL Campaign, Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), Centre for Human Rights and Policy Studies, Plataforma CIPÓ, and Saferworld.
