Gears 3 Carmine Shirts Raised $150,000 for Child's Play

"Although the fate of Carmine has been sealed, we can't tell you right now," says Cliff Bleszinski.

The Gears of War 3 "Fate of Carmine" charity campaign officially closed this weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo. Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson from Epic Games appeared on video at the G4 panel to drop word that the charity shirts had raised $150,000 for Child's Play. No breakdown was given on the real shirts versus the virtual goods; but either way, that's a lot of votes for Carmine.

The two thanked everyone for buying shirts, whether for their Xbox 360 Avatars or the real life shirts sold by NECA, along with corporate sponsors and partners like Microsoft, G4, and Penny Arcade. "Although the fate of Carmine has been sealed, we can't tell you right now," said Cliff Bleszinski. This being a marketing event as well, we'll have to wait until Gears 3 releases to learn what happens to the poor, doomed schlub.

the burger gave me energy to kill people on xbox live.

buying a shirt that would benefit people in the real world is just wrong.

I wanted this character to be Lt. Carmine, the older badass brother that the other Carmine's wanted to grow up to be like. I wanted him to be surprisingly as badass as Marcus and not die. Killing Carmine's is getting old, it would of been more fun to surprise players with a take no sh** balls to the wall hardened war veteran!

I love the Gears series. I am indifferent about the Carmines. Clifford destroyed the Unreal Tournament series. I've played him online quite a few times back in the day, and he blows. That.is.all.

That's great.  $150k for charity from gamers.

And I voted to save Carmine since he ACTUALLY looks like a Gear instead of a scrub.

The poor Carmine family.  It would be cool to see a game based around saving the last of the carmine family.

It's all about money, if there isn't already an exlusive contract with Microsoft (which I'm sure there is), Sony could eventually get a ported trilogy. Unlikely, but hey, PS3 is getting Mass Effect 2 so the chances are good down the road right? (I own an 360).

    • If Epic could for once make a balanced and unglitchy game,

      Posted: 09/06/2010 by  SamuraiTerry

I don't care what platform it comes out for.  Gears 2's multiplayer was so broken, I played 2 games and went back to Halo.

Would love to see a mission where you go save the last of the Carmine brothers.

I guess this gives a new definiton to buying votes. I voted/bought to save the poor bastard.Laughing
