HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Dozing on the deck just got a lot more comfortable. No longer will the tell-tale marks of a quick nap on the nylon lounger give you away. The new breed of outdoor furniture looks and feels a lot more like that sofa you spent Saturday afternoons on all winter.
Two-time Tony award-winner Christine Ebersole had just finished her cabaret act in The Colony's Royal Room at the venerable Palm Beach hotel. Carlton Varney, her friend and interior designer, was mingling with those leaving the show. Perhaps Dina Merrill, their friend and Palm Beach royalty, was among the cluster of well-coiffed and well-preserved older women.
If you don't mind living in a high-rise or condo, it's pretty easy to find a waterfront address in Pittsburgh. It's when you opt for the suburbs that a home on the water proves a bit tricky.
