    Simply brilliant...

Sherlock is a refreshing, intelligent and entertaining series... Revolving around holmes and watson in a modern day setting, the series is an intelligent take on the classic works of Sir Arthur Canon Doyle. The first series exhibited great writing from steven moffat and was aptly acted by benedict cumberbatch and martin freeman. And I particularly loved the pilot and the... more way the story was built keeping viewers hooked until the resolution. And i like the fact that watson is portrayed more of a companion to Holmes rather than a simpleton as in many adaptions on screen. Really hope that sherlock keeps on delivering quality episodes in future and by the looks of things season 2 will be based on some of the classic stories of Sir Arthur Canon Doyle including my favorite Hounds of Baskerville... Cant wait for series 2..

    Loyal, refreshing and simply brilliant.

What many people seem to forget is that Sherlock Holmes isn't about the silly outfits, top hats, lanterns and pipes - its about gripping adventures and mind boggling mysteries and puzzles! You don't need to have a setting in the Victorian Era to get those right. That's the idea behind this re-imagining of the classic tale in modern times. So... more far, so good. What is truly wonderful about the update is that you can see the touch of true, loyal fans all over it. It's been handled with great care and respect to the original in its innovations and changes. Benedict Cumberbatch makes a wonderful Holmes and is just a joy to watch, while Martin Freeman compliments him with a wonderful performance as Watson. The two have great chemistry and are brilliant actors. You don't have to be familiar with the original tales or to know anything about Sherlock Holmes to watch this and still like it (I actually started reading the books BECAUSE of the show), which is another huge plus. All and all, a spectacular show with only a few minor quibbles here and there (the first two episodes overstayed their welcome with their total runtime) that is a must for fans of Sherlock Holmes everywhere.

Sherlock Holmes making a name for himself in modern times

I was surprised when this show came on, and didn't know if I would like it or not. Being an avid fan and reader of Sherlock Holmes literature, I couldn't quite imagine the cast in a modern setting. I decided that despite my wariness to give it a try, and how glad I am that I did!

Perfect actor selection, I... more can't imagine a better Holmes portrayal out there! Each episode was intriguing, suspenseful, and dramatic. What a brilliant execution of a wonderful idea. My only problem is that 3 episodes is nowhere near enough, and the cliffhanger at the end is a killer. I hope for more in the future, and wish this show much success. Truly exceptional.

As a Sherlock Holmes fan it was a relief to watch this modernised version of the great detective, keeping much... more of his brilliance alive and at the same time brining him into our century with our gadgets and lifestyle. Watson is a lively foil. A good show.

    10
I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan and when I saw this show come up I thought it could either fail badly and embarrassingly or be really good. Happily I can say that it is a good show, keeping much of the great detective intact and modernising aspects of him in a believable way. If Conan-Doyle had been a present-day writer, he... more might well have added Holmes' love of mobile phones and SMS-ing. The fact that Holmes is still the same character in essence means that the show still retains it's Sherlockian flavour. Watson is the muscle/side kick/foil for Holmes and his brilliant ideas, but Watson is no fool himself - again, pretty much as Conan-Doyle intended. The cases themselves are re-workings of well-known Sherlock stories, modernised when needed, which adds to the fun. So do the little touches in the show to replicate the many things found in the stories - shooting holes in the wall, the slipper impaled with a knife on the mantlepiece, and many more. Revamps of things, such as his cocaine addiction changed to nicotine patches, and the constant sideways looks people give Sherlock and Watson as two blokes living together... For Sherlock Holmes fans and for non-fans alike, it is a fun, intelligent, thriller/action series which makes for an exciting, entertaining show. The style of the show, with the cuts, overlays of words/text, blurs and multiple images - stylistically it is all quite beautiful too, almost a loveletter to England, creating a romantic London of the present in the same way the Conan-Doyle books give us a romantic view of London back then. This show works on many levels, and can just be enjoyed for the plots and character interactions without the baggage of being a Sherlock Holmes story. Which makes it accessible to all.
