History in a few words
Composer: Clayton McMichen and Dan Hornsby

Adam was the first man that ever was invented
He lived all alone but he never was contented
They made him out of muc in the days gone by
And hung him on a fence for to see how he'd dry

Along came Eve and they both had a battle
He shoved her up a tree to get himself an apple
She got two and they both ate one
And ever since then all our trouble's begun.

Then came Noah and he stumbled in the dark
He found himself a hammer and he built himself an ark
Then came the animals two by two
The hip hipopotimus and the K Kangaroo.

Then came the lion and then came the bear
Then came the elephants without any hair
Forty days and forty nights the rain began to drop
And made the old ark go flippity flop.

Jonah went asailin' just when he hadn't oughter
The boat got to rockin' and they throw'd him in the water
Along came a whale and you bet he was a snorter
And gobbled Mister Jonah right out of the water.

For three days and three nights the whale swam around
Jonah on the inside he began to pound
Then the whale's stomache began to get rank
And he throwed Mister Jonah out on the bank.

Then came Columbus and he was dead broke
He discovered America and he thought he would croak
Then came Dewey and his battleship Maine
And headed for a certain part of Spain.

His ship was in Havana, a little Spanish town
He told his boys "We'll just hang around"
Then came the Spaniards and they blew up the Maine
And the United States whipped the devil out of Spain.

Then came the Kaiser to get a view of France
The dough-boys turned him back with bullets in his pants
Then came Henry with a hammer and a board
Took himself a can and made himself a Ford.

We had good times and ev'ry one was busy
We all had money to get ourselves a Lizzie
The Ford got old and Henry got busy
So he took another can and made a lady out of Lizzie.

Then came Hoover with his economic talk
We can't get a car and now we have to walk
It's mighty hard times for ev'rybody now
You better sell your car and get yourself a cow.

I've told you the hist'ry from Adam on down
Sometimes we're up and sometimes we're down
The only thing to do is, do the best you can
'Cause they sho' played the devil when they made the first man.
That's hist'ry in a few, few words.
