According to the Xiamen Urban Rail Transit Construction Plan (2011-2020) approved by the National Development and Reform Committee (NDRC), Xiamen will complete the construction of 3 urban rail transit lines by 2020 and will use the B-type metro vehicle, reported Xiamen Daily Thursday.
With a total length of 75.3 kilometers, the 3 urban rail transit lines will connect Xiamen Island and its mainland districts and form the backbone of Xiamen’s urban rail transit system.
They are expected to greatly improve the cross-sea transport capacity between Xiamen Island and its mainland districts and strengthen district integration.
The first 3 urban rail transit lines will use the B-type metro vehicle, which has been adopted in 70% of the Chinese cities that have metro lines.
The suggested routes of the Xiamen Urban Rail Transit:
1) Line 1
Lundu Ferry Terminal- Old Town- Xiamen Railway Station- Jimei New Town- Xiamen North Railway Station
2) Line 2
Wuyuan Bay- Guanyinshan- Jiangtou- Northern bank of Yundang Lake- Haicang New Town
3) Line 3
Xiamen Port- Bailuzhou- Old industrial area in Huli District- Xiang'an New Town
