My Website Has Moved!

Hey everyone!

This post is just a (belated) FYI: I am working on making the transition from Blogger to Tumblr because of ease-of-use, simplicity, etc., so while I am keeping this blogspot address up so that people can still access the post archives, I will no longer be updating anything here. (I will be moving significant posts over to Tumblr eventually and then deleting this site, but it may take me awhile.) Please update your feeds/bookmarks/what have you accordingly!

For news, contact info, information about appearances, and whatever else you may be interested in, please find me here:

www.veronicarothbooks.com (now redirects to tumblr site)

I am also still on Twitter at @VeronicaRoth.

Thank you!

News About the "Four" Stories

All right, so it's good news/bad news time.

Everyone always wants the bad news first, so here goes.

Bad News: the three remaining stories from Four's perspective that I've been working on, which were supposed to come out later this year/early next year, have been delayed until July 2014. They'll be bundled together and sold as a hardcover under the title Four: A Divergent Collection, with some fun extra content, and at that time they will also be released as separate e-stories (so, if you've already bought the first one, "The Transfer," you don't have to pay again for it in a collection if you don't want to).

If you are asking, incredulously, "why, Veronica? Why must you do this to us?!" My answer is: the stories turned out much meatier and more substantial than I was originally anticipating when I started them. There’s just so much going on—Tobias’s reunion with his mother, his growing disillusionment with the faction system, and some of his early moments with Tris, to name a few. So I just really, really need more time to get them right. I know it sucks, but I am sure that this extra time will result in better work and better stories for everyone to read.

Okay. Good News:

-If you already pre-ordered the second story, "The Initiate," your pre-order will not be canceled. It will just take a little longer for you to get it.
-The stories are long. As in, they're about seventy pages each, so if you add them together you get about 280 pages of Tobias's story. Which is as long as some novels. So there's more to read!
-The price for the e-stories will not change, even though they're longer than anticipated.
-The stories will be better in July than they would have been if they had come out this winter, because I'm going to work my butt off to make them that way!

Which is what I'm off to do right now, actually.

Short Stories!

I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO TELL YOU GUYS THIS FOR MONTHS.

Short version: there are going to be Divergent e-shorts!

Four of them!

And they will be about…drumroll, please…

Four!

(See what I did there?)

And the first one will be out on September 24th!

Long version: when my publisher approached me hoping that I would be able to write some extra Divergent content from them, I considered a few options for what I might write about, or whose perspective I might choose. Over time it became clear to me that the character I was most interested in exploring further was Four. Two reasons: first, I know his perspective is the one a lot of you are interested in reading (I get asked if I'm going to write anything else from his perspective all the time!), and hey, you're my readers and I like to write things you want to read; second, I was excited by the idea of expanding my own understanding of him, the way I did when I rewrote the knife-throwing scene from his perspective for the Free Four e-short.

For me, Four has never just been Tris’s love interest or a way for sexual tension to enter the story. He has always been a whole person with a history that affects him (and Tris) in significant ways, and a co-mover of the plot along with Tris. These stories are helping me to delve into his character in a way I never have before, and to build up parts of the world that Tris never experienced due to her limited perspective. Interestingly enough, they also affected the content of Allegiant, giving me more to draw from—awesome, right?

These stories will be longer than Free Four (Four’s retelling of the knife-throwing scene, which was only thirteen pages), and the first one will be out on September 24th. You can learn more official info here, too. And of course, I'll keep you informed of the other stories as information becomes available, too.

Movie Update!

Oh hi. Remember when I promised you that I would update you on movie stuff when there was information to update you about? Well, today there was this:

http://www.deadline.com/2012/09/divergent-scheduled-for-march-21-2014/

As with any movie-related thing, I feel that I should help out with interpreting the information since I, too, was helped to interpret the information. Here we go:

What This Does NOT (!) Mean: ALL IS SET IN STONE. Everything will happen exactly as anticipated! Everything in the universe is now in alignment and there will be rainbow glitter fairies floating around my head 24-7! Yay!

As we have learned together over the past few years, my darlings, Hollywood is a little tricksy because there are so many things to get in perfect order in order to make things happen. Nothing is final until your buns are in the movie theater chair. That is why I mostly keep my head down and work on book 3 and sometimes sleep.

What This DOES (!) Mean: We of the Divergent book/movie team are excited, enthusiastic, and have some momentum! Things are looking good, guys. So let's wait and see what happens next. (Possibly with nail biting. And that compulsive knee jiggling I love so much.)

Seriously, though: while not a guarantee (and really, is anything guaranteed in this life except death? WOW why did this blog post take such a morbid turn? I must be tired), this is a great sign and I am very happy about it.
