This week's retail GPU availability report: sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. But hey, at least a GTX 1050 Ti is an improvement over last week's best video card, the GT 1030! Sadly, ETH hit another all-time high yesterday, so status quo will continue to reign.

We're having a deeper look into the new Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 SoCs inside of the Galaxy S21 Ultra ahead of our full device review. Both SoCs are on Samsung 5nm, both have X1 cores - who does it better?

What wasn't mentioned is that because AMD's ECC policy isn't POR, a system could say it's running with ECC enabled but it technically isn't. I responded to Torvalds' post about this. You need error injection methods to actually detect if it's running.

Speaking of hard-to-get PC parts this morning, has updated our CPU buyer's guide. The good news is that, unlike GPUs, you can actually get a CPU! Though your selection is essentially limited to Intel parts

And piggybacking off of a comment from this morning, it's not like AMD and NVIDIA aren't making GPUs. All signs point to NV in particular making vast numbers of them. But all of that supply is being immediately eaten up by even greater demand.

Meanwhile Ethereum is at a new all-time high this morning. So this problem isn't going away for a while

Frankly, the current GPU availability situation has me kind of down. GPUs aren't just a job for me, but are a personal interest. So it's kind of painful to me that other people aren't able to enjoy the hobby right now. So many cool things that people aren't getting to see...

This week's retail GPU availability report: the fastest video card you can get on Newegg this morning is a GeForce GT 1030; there are no AMD cards in stock. And yesterday I glimpsed a GeForce RTX 3090 in stock for $2200, so that was a rare surprise

This week's retail video card roundup: Newegg finally has a video card more powerful than a GTX 1050 Ti in stock. A brand-new XFX Radeon RX 580 can be had for just $399!

The big boy himself: Ponte Vecchio. Intel has a lot riding on the chip; fingers crossed that they have a successful power-on test.

Meanwhile I don't expect that Intel will repeat any revenue records for 2021. But 2021 is a bit of a hard read as everyone waits to see how the pandemic plays out, and how well Intel can deliver on their 2021 product plans

Intel may not be at the peak of their game right now, but 2020 was still a blow-out year for the company. They booked $77.9B in revenue, the fifth year in a row they've set a revenue record. And even though profits declined slightly, they still put away $20.9B in net income

Not that I necessarily expected differently. But Newegg in particular is the bellwether for video cards. So if they're out, we're in trouble.

Because apparently I'm a masochist, I'm (still) doing my weekly check on the state of the video card market. The production shortage and impact of Ethereum are really driven home when the most powerful video card in stock at Newegg is a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (only $170!)

GPUs are one of the most complex chips to build - they are a collection multiple subsystems that interact with each other, some synchronous others asynchronous. And the software stack to support multiple APIs and languages with compliance and performance makes it even harder
