PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
GREETIN (GREEn Heat Transformation INitiative) provides a direct answer to the challenge of decarbonizing Europe's district heating and cooling (DHC) sector. Moving beyond isolated demonstrations, GREETIN structures ten distinct pilot projects and technical models across six EU nations around common DHC typologies. This typology-based approach creates a powerful toolkit of validated, replicable blueprints for hundreds of other European municipalities, enabling them to confidently integrate mature technologies like fourth-generation DHC (TRL 7-8) and smart grid systems (TRL 6-7). The project’s primary deliverable is a portfolio of ten endorsed, implementation-ready investment plans and replicable models. These will serve as bankable proof of GREETIN's methodology, directly mobilizing €150 million in sustainable energy investments by the project's end (Month 42). This targeted investment will enable the generation of 401.5 GWh/yr of renewable and waste heat and reduce emissions by 139,950 tCO2-eq/yr. Building on this immediate success, GREETIN’s validated toolkit is designed to unlock a much larger project pipeline, bringing the total mobilized investment to €300-350 million within five years of the project's conclusion. To ensure this catalytic impact is sustained, GREETIN will deliver targeted training programs, transfer practical knowledge directly to five follower DHC companies, and work with fifteen local and regional authorities to integrate the project's replicable models into their official energy plans.
