第1長篇『あなたの魂に安らぎあれ』以来、独自の世界観をもとに「言葉」「機械」などのテーマを重層的に絡みあわせた作品を多数発表、SFファンの圧倒的な支持を受けている。『敵は海賊・海賊版』、『グッドラック　戦闘妖精・雪風』などの長短篇で、星雲賞を数多く受賞（以上、早川書房刊）。1995年、『言壺』で第16回日本SF大賞を受賞した。
