Mutant X: The Complete Collection

I have been waiting for ages to get this on DVD but it was always too expensive. Got all three seasons in a limited edition tin for £29.97...WOW!!! £110 in HMV at the time.

Update....I have just started to watch the series and..... aarrrggghhh..... Series one had two disc ones packed instead of a disc one and a disc two. I have managed to replace the missing disc quite easily though. Anyone buying should check all the discs are correct as soon as it arrives to avoid disappointment.

Nice box set, but the show has a poor start, but gets better as it develops. The first season is cheesey as all hell, where they actually incorporate the starting credit scenes (including slow motion walk) in the actual show, rather than take clips out of the show FOR the opening credits. Cringe worthy. Basically it seems they were working on a very tight budget so don't expect a lot. But as I said, it gets better.

Daughters comment:

This is the best series ever made! Its better than the X-Men as it shows better superpowers. The actors are amazingly talented for their age. I wish there was a Season 4. It covers all types of story plots from 'the thing' to 'zombies' etc. The story plots keep you on your toes and the cliff hangers are exceptional!

Overall, a must buy for Marvel Comics Fans or DC Comics fans as the action is better than them all!

Nice boxed set, enjoyable content. Packed well for transportation. Arrived in the time the seller estimated. Would buy again.

It's a shame these DVDs have a 15 rating as the content would suit the 10-13 year old range.

While being a chip off the old X-men block it struck me as very similar to those 4.30pm BBC 'older children'shows of the 1990s, like the Tomorrow People.

Young people with amazing powers who are discovered by others of same abilities and working to avoid being caught by a typical children's show evil baddie with a very evil baddie appearance, when making his evil baddie plans he makes his evil baddie face and calls for his evil baddie henchmen.

The plot is very simple, the science behind the hi-tech devices or stories on the show is simple and a bit dissapointing considering their target audience with the 15 rating, and the powers and sets quite low rent. All of these mean that rather than a substitute for the xmen films you have a pleasant low budget childrens/young teens tv show. There is little sexual content, and the violence is very soft punch ups and lots of "hia hia" noises, Power Rangers-style so I'd say PG or 12A would have been more than enough.

Fair enough series but unfortunately it wasn't what I expected.

Mutant X first aired at the end of 2001. For those unfamiliar with the series it centers around a group of 4 'new mutants' who have been genetically engineered in an attempt to eradicate them of illness, but it's all gone wrong and they've ended up with extraordinary powers [along with numerous other ex patients]. Under the leadership of Adam [their mentor] they battle against the 'evil' Genomex corporation who are trying to get the mutants off the streets.

Rated 15, this 3 series set covers all 66 episodes of TV series and comes in a tin presentation box. Each episode is virtually a stand alone and there is little in the way of continuing plot lines other than the overall storyline plot. Unlike most other programmes there is no swearing and the few sexual scenes are very low key, making this suitable for family viewing although some of the violence can be upsetting for younger viewers.

Overall the series covers a wide range of subject matter from vampires to nano-bot cloning. The overall feel of the series is that its aimed at young teens and lacks the adult darkness of contemporary shows like Dark Angel and the overtly 'sexual' visuals of Mortal Kombat. The acting and settings may not be top notch and sometimes the dialogue can be quite weak but the series is entertaining and covers some complex subjects. The bad guy is a classic baddie who always calls for his henchmen [or hench women?] to solve his problems. Selling for a little over £20, this is a good solid buy, but it won't please everyone.

Fantastic show, great bluray, item was just as described + fast shipping. Seller's Grade: AAA+

This is a good purchase for those who don't already own the single season sets. Except for the tin box there's nothing too special about this limited edition. I wasn't surprised to find the tin was dented when it arrived. This wasn't due to shipping but poor quality control. The tin is thin and cheap but should hold up to normal handling. I'm still watching the first season and there doesn't seem to be any language or subtitle options. Picture and sound quality are great and it does include some extras. Overall a solid buy.

Being able to watch it from the beginning, all the way to the end was awesome.

They were able to satisfactorily end the series while leaving an opening for further episodes, should they have had the chance.

The Actors were fabulous.

The quality of the DVD's was usually quite excellent.

Too bad the series ended.

The show it's self isn't too bad, an X-Men kinda rip off? I was a fan of the show, it even spawned it's own Prequel Marvel Comic, so I guess, it's in the Marvel Universe err Multi verse? It's got the Great John Shea (Lex Luthor from Lois and Clark), the acting is decent, the effects are decent for when it was made, though they look dated by today's standards. Fox's actual X-Men show The Gifted that came out years later, is much better, acting and effects wise, that too got cancelled, thanks to Disney buying Fox. One day soon, we will probably get an X-Men or Mutant show on Disney+

What's really interesting is the legal battles and the history of the show. Fox sued Marvel, Marvel got sued by the production companies behind the show. The Legal battles continued on even after the show ended/ sorta cancelled? All the Companies ended up settling their differences out of Court. There's a really good YouTube fan made Documentary about the show and the legal battles that ensued (it's done by the Total Nerd channel, if anyone is interested in checking it out).

Now on to the Bluray review:

The picture and all is really good, it's almost HD? There's the odd scene where the sky outside in the day light is kinda odd, but everything else is much clearer and brighter than the DVD's out in the market. It is in Widescreen, not in the 4:3 Full Frame aspect ratio that is erroneously stated on the Back of the Box and on the internet. There are no extras in this set, if you want extra's you would have to buy the DVD sets. The extra's on the DVD set are okay, I guess, nothing too amazing. If you a fan of the show, buy it if it's cheap, if not, just watching it online somewhere.
