Rebuilt natively from the ground up, the new Loom for Mac brings instant recording, automatic screen decluttering, and AI-ready video prompts right to your menu bar.

We’ve all been there: you’re about to record a quick video update, but your desktop is a sea of loose files, your camera bubble blocks the exact button you need to click, and you spend the first five minutes rehearsing mental bullet points.

Async video communication should feel effortless, expressive, and instant.

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce the all-new Loom desktop app for Mac. Rebuilt from the ground up to feel right at home on macOS 15+, this new experience brings lightning-fast performance, studio-grade recording polish, and powerful AI capabilities directly to your menu bar.

Whether you’re walking a teammate through a product spec, sending feedback on a design, or handing off instructions to an AI agent, Loom for Mac is designed to help you communicate your best ideas, with zero friction.

Built from scratch: what we did under the hood

Rebuilding an app that millions rely on every day isn’t just about tweaking the interface. It means rethinking every layer so recording feels faster, smoother, and more natural on a Mac.

For the new Loom for Mac, we retired the legacy desktop foundation and rebuilt the app natively from the ground up. Here’s what went into that work:

  • A native Mac app: We rebuilt Loom using Apple’s native technologies so it opens faster, feels more responsive, and uses less of your computer’s memory and processing power while you record. The app is also ~80% smaller, which significantly reduces download size and takes up less disk space on your computer.
  • Advanced screen capture and higher resolution: We tapped into more advanced macOS screen capture features and default to higher resolution, delivering sharper, smoother recordings with support for crisp 4K video, richer color, and clearer text.
  • Better camera and audio performance: We improved how Loom handles your camera and microphone so device switching feels easier and effects like backgrounds and filters run with less lag.
  • Smarter screen awareness: We built a new foundation that helps Loom understand your screen, windows, mouse movement, and recording area in real time. That’s what powers features like cleaner recordings, precise capture, smart bubble placement, and Video Prompts.

Most of this work happens quietly in the background. But you’ll feel it every time Loom launches quickly, captures exactly what you intended, and helps you create a polished video without extra setup.

1. Cleaner, distraction-free recordings by default

Your workspace is where work happens, but your viewers don’t need to see every temporary file or notification cluttering your screen. Because Loom now has deeper, real-time awareness of your screen, windows, and recording area, the new Mac app can automatically tidy up your recording stage before you even hit record.

Automatic decluttering is built on that smarter screen foundation: Loom can separate the content you mean to share from the surrounding Mac chrome, seamlessly hiding desktop icons and the top menu bar from the final recording. The result is an instant, professional look that keeps viewers focused on what matters while sensitive bookmarks, open tabs, and background notifications stay private, without requiring you to manually clean up your desktop every time you record.

2. Express yourself: new bubble shapes, filters & backgrounds

Video is the fastest way to build human connection across distributed teams, and the rebuilt camera pipeline makes that connection feel more natural. The new Mac app gives you more creative control over how you show up on camera, without making your machine work harder while you record.

With fresh camera bubble shapes, you can move beyond the classic circle and choose modern squircle, portrait, or landscape frames that better fit your content. Because Loom now handles camera input, audio, and visual effects more efficiently, instant filters and custom backgrounds feel responsive in one click, whether you want a playful look, a polished finish, curated gradients, custom brand assets, or custom colors.

You can also drag your bubble around the perimeter of your screen and use smart edge-snapping to keep your face visible without covering critical on-screen elements. That precision comes from Loom’s new screen-awareness layer, which understands window boundaries and recording context in real time.

3. Share only what matters: precise screen capture

Sometimes you want to share your entire display; other times, you only want to focus on a single window or a specific area. Loom’s native foundation and smarter screen awareness give you granular control over what you capture.

Loom makes it simple to capture exactly what you need. Use drag-to-select to highlight the precise boundary of your screen you want to share, nothing more, nothing less. Switch effortlessly between full screen, specific windows, custom areas, and camera-only mode. Under the hood, modern macOS screen capture tools help deliver crisp 4K resolution, richer color accuracy, smoother frame rates, and ultra-sharp text rendering for a higher-fidelity viewing experience.

4. Stay on track: refreshed speaker notes & teleprompter

Say goodbye to awkward pauses, forgotten talking points, or glance-away eye contact.

The refreshed speaker notes and built-in teleprompter help you stay on message without breaking eye contact. Position the scrolling teleprompter right below your Mac camera so your delivery feels natural. Use voice-to-text to speak rough ideas aloud and turn them into structured speaker notes to guide your thoughts. It’s powered by the same native performance and improved audio handling that keep your recording responsive, fluid, and easy to deliver.

5. Show, don’t type: Record for agents with Loom

Prompting AI shouldn’t require learning to speak fluent “robot.” When you explain a problem or request to a coworker, you don’t write a novel of text. You pull up your screen, point at the issue, and narrate your thinking. Loom’s native capture architecture, audio pipeline, and screen-awareness layer make that same show-and-tell context available to AI agents.

With Record for agents built directly into Loom for Mac, you can collaborate with AI agents just like you would with a teammate:

  • Turn screen recordings into instructions AI can execute: Simply record your screen, click through the relevant links or design files, and talk through the task. Loom captures your voice, clicks, cursor movement, and on-screen context with the same underlying improvements that make regular recordings sharper and more precise. Then, Loom transforms the recording into a step-by-step action plan that agents like Rovo, Claude, or coding assistants can execute immediately.
  • Mark critical context on the fly: Add even more clarity with Magic Pen and Key Moments by circling specific UI elements and capturing important context, such as new design requests for a landing page, while you record. This feeds precise technical metadata and screenshots into the instructions.
  • Turn ideas into Jira work items instantly: When the work is ready to move forward, Loom can convert recorded action items directly into structured Jira issues with a single click.
