Face of the CityMayor Nancy Sikes-KlineHappy 2023! For our first #FaceOfTheCity this year, we would like for you to meet our new Mayor, Nancy Sikes-Kline! She has served as a Commissioner for 14 years and took the oath of Mayor in December 2022. As Mayor, it is Nancy Sikes-Kline’s job to respond to calls, emails, and texts from residents, represent the City at community events and ceremonies, run City Commission Meetings, as well as attend meetings for the County and State. Another important part of the Mayor’s job is to act as a liaison with Federal and State representatives to advocate in the best interest of the City. Sikes-Kline is also our voting delegate for the Florida League of Cities, and has earned the title of ‘home rule hero’ consecutively for the past five years. “My family has been in St. Johns County since the 1850’s. My Great Grandfather was the St. Johns County Tax Collector,” said Mayor Sikes-Kline. “My family instilled me with a sense of love for my community, so I serve my neighbors to give back. After college, I interned in the City’s Planning Department, after that worked for and retired from the private sector as a planning consultant, and the rest is history.” Mayor Sikes-Kline is a third generation UF Gator and earned her bachelor’s degree in Geography. She currently serves on the following Boards: University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning, Department of Historic Preservation, North Florida Transportation Planning Organization, St. Johns County Tourist Development Council, Florida League of Cities, and Lightner Museum. A few of Mayor Sikes-Kline’s recognitions include the Leadership Award for Public Service from the Enterprising Women's Leadership Institute, Inc. in 2011, the Adelaide Sanchez Award for Historic Preservation in 2017, and was recognized by the St. Johns County Cultural Council during Women in History Month 2021. “It is important to participate in government and I am proud to work alongside my fellow Commissioners,” said Sikes-Kline. “It’s not always easy but we strive to treat each other like we want to be treated to accomplish our common goals and make a difference.” Outside of work, Sikes-Kline enjoys spending time with her husband Roger, as well as family, friends, neighbors, and dog, Max. She is an avid reader and enjoys reading anything from historical novels to nonfiction, as well as participating in a book club.
