The latest quarterly AARP Foundation Economic Security Monitor shows that older adults with low income face significant and persistent affordability pressures, limited emergency savings, and widespread reliance on additional work. The findings show that one-third of older adults with low income could not cover an emergency expense of $100 or more from savings. And more than half could not cover $500 of emergency expenses. The results also highlight substantial differences by age. ➡️ Among respondents age 50-64, 64% identified rising prices as a major concern, compared with 46% of those 65 and older ➡️ 30% of those age 50-64 reported a significant household income loss in the prior three months, compared with 14% among the 65-plus group. Every dollar matters when you're living on a tight budget. Yet millions of dollars in SNAP benefits are stolen each year through EBT card theft, putting critical food assistance at risk. That's why AARP Foundation is joining JPMorganChase to support a new pilot program from The Aspen Institute Financial Security Program to help states implement real-time transaction blocking technology for EBT cards. This proven safeguard can help stop suspicious transactions before benefits are stolen, helping protect the resources families and older adults rely on every day. 🔗 Learn more: http://spr.ly/6040BHHc32 #FraudPrevention #FoodSecurity #BenefitsAccess

Were excited to highlight the incredible partner organizations that make up the AARP Foundation #ExperienceCorps network. Over the coming months, well introduce you to local program partners across the country who are helping older adult volunteers and elementary school students build meaningful connections through literacy. 📚❤️ First up: Literations in Boston. For more than 25 years, Literations has advanced educational equity by empowering young readers through the support of experienced community volunteers. Since launching as an Experience Corps partner in 1998, Literations has trained older adult volunteers to provide consistent, relationship-based tutoring that helps elementary school students strengthen their reading skills and confidence. Their vision is simple, but powerful: ensure that every child, regardless of ZIP code, enters fifth grade as a proficient reader prepared for lifelong success. Both students and volunteers feel the impact of Experience Corps. As one Literations volunteer recently shared, "I have found working with young readers is a high point of my week. I am happy to know that the time we spend together makes a real difference in the reading abilities of the students I work with." Thank you, Literations, for helping create brighter futures for young readers across Boston! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dmiZNBz

Our fight for justice continues for former employees of St. Clare's Hospital in New York as they seek pensions they earned and were promised by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. Earlier this week, the Albany Diocese appealed the court's decision awarding the pensioners $54.2 million. In the interview below, AARP Foundation's Louis Lopez said the pensioners are frustrated by the diocese's continued efforts to delay the outcome. "This pension isn’t something that they hoped to get. This was a promise backed by a lifetime of work," he said. AARP Foundation is preparing our response and is committed to ensuring the St. Clare's workers receive the retirement security they were promised after decades of service.

JUST IN: We're working to ensure that in-home care services are delivered when people need them. 💪 AARP Foundation and co-counsel have reached a proposed settlement in a class action case challenging gaps in New Hampshire's Medicaid-funded in-home care program. If approved, the settlement would require New Hampshire to take meaningful steps to address care shortages, help participants find providers, improve oversight when authorized services are not delivered, and strengthen access to care for nearly 4,000 older adults and people with disabilities. 🔗 Read more about the proposed settlement and its potential impact: http://spr.ly/6042BGNn6Q #Medicaid #Caregiving #JusticeForAll
