  • Tomorrow is #WorldMentalHealthDay! According to the World Health Organization, the goal of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health in our communities. Here are ways that our staff members at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation practice self care and support their own mental health! 🌳 Alondra, Community Impact Coordinator: I like to go outside to photosynthesize, breath fresh air and feel the sun. I also enjoy spending some time with animals, taking the cat or dog out for a walk, too. 🌿 Doni, Director of Operations: I take a walk every day after dinner with my husband and daughter to reconnect and breathe fresh air. I also love my office reminder (see the "Be Kind to Your Mind" sign that I like to look at every so often when I'm feeling overwhelmed.) 🗪 Jasmine, Senior Communications Coordinator: I meet regularly with my therapist! It's helped a lot to have a professional to talk candidly to who can also give me the tools to regulate my emotions day-to-day. Carving out time to focus on arts and crafts also helps me decompress and unwind. (Take a look at some of the projects I've worked on recently!) 🚵♀️ Rebekah, Director of Legacy Giving: Go outdoors! I love trail riding, biking, or playing with my kids along the American River. 🧩 Vasey, Senior Director of Communications: I do jigsaw puzzles in the evenings. Here's one I completed recently, which I enjoyed.

  • Happy #NationalGoodNeighborDay! Our staff practice doing good in their neighborhoods and communities in many different ways. 🌟 Cynthia, our Senior Staff Accountant, volunteers for the American River Clean Up every year with her partner Rick. 🌟 Jasmine, our Senior Communications Coordinator, joins local groups to provide cooling and hydration stations around Sacramento during heat waves. 🌟 Jessica, our Chief Impact Officer, gathers with her family and other families on their street to host neighborhood events, like Halloween and Neighbor's Night Out. 🌟 Monica, our Director of Community Impact, participates in the Center for Land-Based Learning's Student Landowner Education & Watershed Stewardship (SLEW) mentorship program, an effort to restore habitat for native plants, animals and pollinators. 🌟 Tina, our Director of Scholarships and Awards, gets together with her women's group every holiday season to pick a volunteer project and help families and community members in need. One year, they made care packages for unhoused neighbors, providing presents, meals, and other necessities to multiple families. How are you being a good neighbor today? Let us know in the comments! And, if you're still looking for actions to take today, check out www.bigdayofgiving.org. You can support any of the hundreds of local nonprofits that have GivingEdge profiles there, or find events and volunteer opportunities!
