Week 3: Health, Hope, and Healing Young people cannot thrive without opportunities to heal. In pursuit of justice for youth, we must recognize the whole young person—not simply their involvement with a system. Mental health, emotional well-being, community and family relationships, stability, and access to supportive services all matter. When we provide youth and their families with what they need to heal and be healthy all of our communities benefit. #YJAM2026

October is #YJAM! This Youth Justice Action Month, we're building a future where youth thrive, and it starts when young people lead the movement. Meet Aminata N., a member of our YJI Peer Advisory Council, who reminds us that youth leadership means having a role in every step of creating change. She said, “Youth leading the movement means... they are actively building the movement with you, guiding you throughout as leaders to build a better future.” From defining the purpose to allocating the funds, young people deserve the power and opportunities to shape the movement. Thank you, Aminata, for showing what it means to put youth leadership into action. 💛 Learn more and take action: https://lnkd.in/e5Pp3QqT Coalition for Juvenile Justice #YouthJusticeActionMonth #YJAM #YouthVoice #YouthLeadingTheMovement

Lina Smith, our Caldwell area Treatment Director, is attending the 2026 Youth Justice in Action Conference - Coalition for Juvenile Justice. Lina serves as a Behavioral Health representative on the Idaho Juvenile Justice Commission. We're excited to join other Idaho delegates, including judges and staff from the Idaho Department of Corrections, at the conference and learn how to better advocate for Idaho youth, uplift youth leaders, and reduce racial and ethnic disparities in the youth legal system. #WherePossibilityExists #CoalitionforJuvenileJustice #ThriveCommunityServices

I’m in flight to Pittsburgh for the Youth Justice in Action conference by Coalition for Juvenile Justice to learn from practitioners, advocates, and policymakers about driving positive change in juvenile justice systems across the country. I’ll be presenting with Katherine Perry-Lorentz (and will miss our co-usual co-presenters Alicia Lynch, Ph.D., David M. Chandler, PhD Jen Rocha (Glickman)) on our work in partnership with MA DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH SERVICES and MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education showing the detrimental implications of out-of-school suspensions and subsequent negative implications of pre-trial detention on long-term educational outcomes. Two examples of youth being intentionally distanced from the positive, healing relationships that they need. The through line for this work is that youth involved with juvenile justice systems (note: almost all of whom are from economically under resourced families, communities, and schools) are not receiving trauma-informed supports, productive, enriching (and fun!) experiences in their communities, and help navigating the numerous opportunities and challenges in their lives. We know from other work with these partner agencies that youth who have a trusted adult in their lives who can help with this navigation, connect them with other helpful adults, and link them with needed resources, have a substantively greater chance of high school attainment and a substantively reduced chance of recidivating. What programs and practices would you recommend to support youth involved with or at a heightened risk of involvement with legal systems? #youthdevelopment #webofsupports #juvenilejustice

This Youth Justice Action Month, we’re looking back at moments that remind us why this work matters. At the Maryland Office of the Public Defender’s Training Center, our Youth Summit brought together juvenile defenders, advocates from beyond MOPD, and students committed to strengthening advocacy for young people. Through training, conversation, and shared learning, participants explored what it means to be zealous, informed, and intentional advocates for youth navigating the legal system. As we recognize #YouthJusticeActionMonth, we’re continuing to center the voices, rights, and futures of young people—and the advocates who stand beside them. #YJAM #MOPD #YouthJusticeActionMonth

What an experience! 💙✨ I had the opportunity to attend my first Coalition for Juvenile Justice conference in Pittsburgh as a member of the Emerging Leaders—and I also had the opportunity to co-present amazing work that Jacob Madison-Estes is doing at Bridge the Gap Colorado. Being able to not only attend, but also share my voice and perspective alongside others who are passionate about improving the juvenile justice system was such a meaningful experience. It was definitely a full-circle moment and reminded me why I continue to advocate for young people and pursue this work. I’m grateful for everything I learned, the connections I made, and the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and grow both personally and professionally. Being in spaces where youth voices and lived experiences are valued makes me even more motivated to continue using my own experiences, education, and voice to help create change. My first conference AND my first time co-presenting—definitely a moment I’ll remember. 💙✨ I’m excited to see where this journey continues to take me! #CoalitionForJuvenileJustice #JuvenileJustice #EmergingLeaders #YouthAdvocacy #CriminalJustice #ProfessionalGrowth

Great food, great people, and an even greater purpose! Last night, our CJJ Executive Board had the pleasure of coming together for dinner at Café Momentum Pittsburgh, and what a wonderful experience! Not only did we enjoy delicious food and great company, but we also had the opportunity to support an organization doing meaningful work to create opportunities for justice-involved young people. Café Momentum is a powerful reminder of what happens when we invest in young people, recognize their potential, and provide pathways for them to learn, grow, and thrive. A huge THANK YOU to Café Momentum Pittsburgh for hosting our Executive Board and for the incredible work you do every day! Good food. Good people. Great cause. That’s what it’s all about! #YJAM2026 #2026YJIAC

Educators! It's Week 2 of Youth Justice Action Month #YJAM2026 and for this week of "Building a future where youth thrive," I'm looking to the past. We need to reconcile some atrocities that have echoes to today. The Center for Youth Justice at Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy is working on it! Check out this news and read about their work in The Bending. https://lnkd.in/gQdKiEcT
