Recently, I have had the pleasure of spending some time at David James in Wotton-under-Edge, working alongside rural surveyors across a range of commercial and residential developments. It was highly valuable to experience site visits first-hand, including a range of viewings and data collection to support valuation reports. One particular project involved the construction of the new train station in Charfield, which will serve local residents travelling to and from Bristol and Gloucester when completed next spring. The site visit and meeting highlighted the importance of effective communication between stakeholders to minimise disruption throughout a project, as well as the depth of planning required to satisfy all involved. Many thanks to everyone at David James for being so welcoming and for sharing your valuable knowledge, especially Toby Read and Matthew Blaken.

Our Monmouth Office are officially back home at our newly refurbished office! 🎉🍾 After the devastating floods in Monmouth back in November 2025, it has been a real rollercoaster. Chloe, Sales Manager; would like to say a huge thanks for the continued support from clients throughout this period between Market Tavern and transitioning back to Monnow Street. We are immensely proud of the new space we have created in 87 Monnow Street and are pleased to be back in our ‘home’ on the high street. Despite the obstacles that November 2025 threw at us, our enthusiastic and longstanding team have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and have remained resilient throughout, dedicating extra time at local events in order to continually enhance our strong presence within the community, getting properties sold, in and around Monmouth. Thank you to all involved in the move back we look forward to welcoming you to our office when you pass by! #estateagent #countrylife #monmouth #property #renovation

Having now completed my placement year with David James, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported me throughout the year. The placement gave me the chance to build on my knowledge, gain valuable hands-on experience and develop a much better understanding of rural surveying in practice. The year also came with an unexpected setback when I tore my ACL, and I’m very grateful for the support and understanding shown by everyone at David James during my recovery. My time at David James has strengthened my interest in Rural Enterprise and Land Management and confirmed that this is a career I’m keen to pursue. I’ve really valued seeing first-hand the role rural professionals play in supporting farming businesses, landowners and rural communities. A special thank you to Matthew Blaken, William Creamer, Joshua Quan-Buchanan and Toby Read for all your advice, support and patience throughout the year, as well as everyone else at David James for making me feel so welcome. I’m now looking forward to returning to Harper Adams University for my final year, taking with me a great deal of experience, new skills and good memories from the past year. Thank you, David James! #DavidJames #HarperAdamsUniversity #RuralLandManagement #RuralSurveying #Placements #ProfessionalDevelopment

This week, Farming Minister Stephen Morgan announced a package of measures to support farmers affected by the impacts of this summer’s extreme dry weather. Heatwaves and below-average rainfall have placed significant pressure on water resources for agricultural production and Environmental Land Management (ELM) scheme activities. Prolonged dry conditions and high temperatures have also increased the risk of wildfires across England and Wales. Following the Government’s emergency response committee (COBR) discussions on extreme heat, wildfires and drought, the following measures have been announced: 1. Temporary adjustments to ELM agreements Temporary changes will be made to Environmental Land Management agreements, allowing farmers affected by drought to continue receiving payments while taking the necessary steps to protect livestock, crops and land. 2. An additional £50 million for the Sustainable Farming Incentive 2026 A further £50 million has been allocated to SFI 2026, bringing the total budget to £290 million. The additional funding is intended to help more farmers access support and invest in measures that can improve resilience to future drought conditions. 3. Making it easier to build reservoirs The Government will take action to remove unnecessary barriers to reservoir construction and update planning guidance, helping farmers improve their ability to store water. 4. Up to £15 million for on-farm reservoirs Up to £15 million of funding will be made available to support the construction of on-farm reservoirs, helping farmers store water and strengthen their resilience to future periods of drought. 5. Improved access to water during drought conditions The Environment Agency will prioritise requests for short-term variations to abstraction license conditions, helping farmers access water where appropriate during periods of drought. The Government has confirmed that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with the farming and water sectors as conditions develop. If further action is required, additional measures may be considered. https://lnkd.in/e9q5DvKw

📚 We were delighted to welcome the wonderful Year 2 and Year 3 pupils from Magor Church in Wales Primary School to our Magor office recently! The children came along to learn more about what we do at David James Estate Agents, Chartered Surveyors & Planning. They asked some fantastic, thoughtful questions and we loved sharing our knowledge and giving them an insight into our work. To finish their visit, we invited the children to take part in a competition by drawing where their favourite book character lives. We were blown away by the creativity, imagination and effort that went into every single entry. It made choosing just three winners incredibly difficult! The winning drawings are now proudly displayed in our Magor office window for everyone to enjoy, so if you're passing by, we'd love you to stop and take a look. 🎨✨ #Magor #Community #SupportingLocalSchools
