Juniper Ridge Middle School opened this August, welcoming students into a modern, flexible learning environment designed by our Logan office and built by DWA Construction. As one of two new middle schools we designed concurrently for Cache County School District, Juniper Ridge supports 1,200 students with collaborative learning spaces, CTE opportunities, natural daylight, and student‑life amenities. Built with insulated concrete forms for long‑term durability and energy efficiency, the new Hyde Park campus strengthens CCSD’s ability to serve a growing community. This project is especially meaningful to our team, the daughter of one of our principals is now a proud Juniper Ridge Student. Centennial Apartments are officially open for Colorado Mesa University's Fall Semester. Designed by Design West Architects and built by Shaw Construction, this apartment-style residence hall brings 310 single bedroom across 83 full-kitchen apartments in the Formation District. The five-story building blends CMU's traditional character with a modern flare, anchors future pedestrian focused development along Cannell Avenue and connects to the campus geothermal loop to support long-term sustainability. We're proud to help CMU expand affordable, high-quality on campus living for students.

Last month Design West and Hughes General Contractors, Inc. hosted a field day event to highlight the cost savings, athlete safety, and maintenance benefits of synthetic turf fields. With Utah's continuing environmental challenges, water savings matter. A grass football field uses more than a million gallons of water annually. As a newly-arrived immigrant and classically-trained architect from Switzerland, our firm's founder, Karl Schaub left a lasting impression on northern Utah architecture. One of his first assignments in 1891 was designing these iconic east doors of the Salt Lake Temple. In 2021 these doors were removed and restored as part of a six-year renovation project. Each door weighs 580 pounds and stands 12 feet tall. The iconic doors were reinstalled this week, signaling the final stretch of construction on this historical renovation project. Karl founded our firm in 1892, shortly after completing this important project.

Design West was hired by Colorado Mesa Univeristy to create a landscape enhancement to their growing campus. The new Wubben Art Walk transforms an overlooked path into a link between the Asteria Theatre and Moss Performing Arts Center. With geology‑inspired sandstone installations, pollinator‑friendly landscaping, new lighting, shade, and student art zones, this space now supports safer movement and stronger campus life.

Design West is supporting Colorado Mesa University through a master planning effort that explores two new academic buildings for the Montrose Campus. Through collaborative programming and concept studies, we’re helping CMU define the spaces and functions that will strengthen student pathways and serve the broader Montrose community.

Design West reimagined a 1941 Ogden Depot building into Weber School District’s new 8,100 sf facilities office as an adaptive reuse that brings new life to a WWII era timber structure. The renovation includes dedicated offices for facilities, nutrition, and custodial teams, along with a 180 person training room featuring refined finishes, natural light, and a recreated timber expression inspired by the original depot. The North Logan Civic Center is a modern hub at the heart of the city, designed to bring people together. Its high‑loft lobby welcomes visitors with openness, while the council room provides a space for collaboration and civic pride. At 16,000 SF, the Civic Center anchors city life with spaces that support growth and connection. With our Logan office nearby, we’re proud to see this building serving both the community and our team.
