Today, Liberia takes an important step towards a safer and more reliable international gateway. At Roberts International Airport, the Government of #Liberia, the European Union, and the Government of Germany are launching a €8.6 million, three-year partnership to strengthen airport safety, security and infrastructure. The action is implemented by GIZ and will improve: ✈️safety and emergency response systems 🛫 air traffic control and communications 🔐 runway and taxiway infrastructure 👩🏾💼 terminal facilities 👮🏽♂️airport security systems 🌍 institutional capacity and technical skills The goal: to strengthen the conditions for safe, secure and reliable air connectivity in Liberia. 🤖 What does it take for African AI businesses to grow? 📊 Our new report, AI Made in Africa, prepared with Briter, explores the realities facing AI businesses across the continent. Drawing on a mapping of 311 businesses and 85 survey responses from across 38 African countries, it looks at the costs, challenges and support shaping the sector. 🤝 Customer trust and AI literacy are among the biggest barriers to growth, cited by 65% of businesses surveyed. Access to qualified talent is another challenge, while many businesses are calling for greater support for research, development and computing resources. 💻 Cost also matters. More than half of the businesses surveyed price their products below US$2,500 per customer a year, while cloud services and computing power account for some of their biggest development expenses. 💡These insights can help policymakers, investors and AI ecosystem organisations better address the needs of African AI businesses and support their growth. 📖 Read the full report: AI Made in Africa: https://lnkd.in/d7BGn97T #AIMadeInAfrica

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡, 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝! The West Africa Regional Consultation on the Implementation of the Continental Framework on Youth, Peace & Security (CFYPS) and its 10-Year Implementation Plan opened today, 26 October 2026, in Accra, Ghana. Led by the African Union through its Youth for Peace Africa (Y4P) Programme, the consultation is convened in collaboration with the ECOWAS-CEDEAO, the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), the Institute for Security Studies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the UNDP. The event is implemented with the financial support of Germany, EU and Denmark through the GIZ-Implemented Support to the AU for promoting Peace, Security and Governance (AUPSG) in Africa and the EU Support to ECOWAS in Peace Security and Governance (EPSG) Project. This is the first of five regional consultations assessing progress in implementing the Continental Framework and its 10-Year Implementation Plan. In her opening remarks, Ms Nora Noviekou, Regional Coordinator for Youth, Peace & Security at WANEP, highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing the YPS Agenda and strengthening coordinated responses to peace and security challenges. She noted that youth participation in decision-making remains limited in many countries, with socio-economic constraints, misinformation, hate speech and shrinking civic space continuing to undermine young people’s contributions to peace. She reaffirmed WANEP’s commitment to strengthening youth participation and called for concrete action, including adequately funded National Action Plans, greater investment in youth-led initiatives and stronger partnerships to place young people at the centre of peace and security efforts. 𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗦: Ms Enobong Moma, Head of Component for Women, Youth, Peace and Security and Security Sector Reform and Governance under the EU Support to ECOWAS in Peace, Security and Governance (EPSG) Programme, emphasised that young people must be recognised not only as people affected by conflict, but also as peacebuilders, mediators, innovators and leaders. Dr onyinye onwuka, Head of Mediation, Coordination and Regional Political Affairs at the ECOWAS Commission, called for young people to have a meaningful influence on peace and security decisions, rather than being engaged symbolically. Ms Nuzrat Aba Sam, representing Ghana’s Ministry of Youth Development & Empowerment, underlined the importance of translating commitments into practical action. Stakeholders are reflecting on progress, implementation challenges and practical recommendations to advance the agenda towards 2029 and beyond. Stay tuned for highlights! 🌍 Advancing African-led responses to climate-related peace and security challenges at #TanaForum2026 From 23 to 25 October, the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa brought together African leaders, policymakers, researchers and practitioners in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, to discuss pressing peace and security challenges facing the continent. The Forum was organised by the Tana Secretariat at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies - IPSS. 🤝 We co-convened a side event with the African Union Commission’s Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) on “Climate Pressures, Resilient Communities, and Sustainable Peace in Africa.” Attended by H.E. Goodluck Jonathan, former President of Nigeria, the discussion explored how African institutions and partners can move beyond identifying climate-related security risks towards practical responses that strengthen community resilience and support sustainable peace. 💡 Key messages from the discussion: 🔹 Climate change is not only an environmental issue; it also affects livelihoods and can compound peace and security challenges. Responses need to address these interconnected social, economic and security dimensions. 🔹 Climate-related pressures can intensify existing tensions, but climate change is only one of several factors shaping migration patterns and conflict dynamics. 🔹 Effective institutional responses require strong local partnerships and climate finance that better reflects African needs and priorities. 🌱 These discussions contribute to the African Union’s ongoing efforts to advance its Common African Position on Climate Change, Peace and Security, helping translate continental priorities into practical action for conflict prevention, community resilience and sustainable peace. Commissioned by Germany, we support the African Union in advancing its Climate, Peace and Security agenda. #TanaForum2026 #AfricanUnion #ClimatePeaceSecurity Dr Gracsious Maviza (nee Ncube) George Nwangwu African Union GIZ Kenya © Video: Tana Forum

🌍🚆⚡ How do we unlock the next phase of Africa’s continental infrastructure agenda? The Program Infrastructure Development for Africa (PIDA) is key to the African Union’s efforts to boost transport as well as the flow of energy, water, data and more to strengthen the sustainable development of the continent. 🏛️This week, the African Union Commission and AUDA NEPAD officially launched the Mid-Term Review of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) and its Priority Action Plan 2. 📊 The review takes stock of 69 priority regional infrastructure projects planned for 2021–2030. Over the coming months, the and will work with Regional Economic Communities, Member States, institutions and project owners to understand what’s working, address the challenges holding projects back and explore how to better support project delivery. 🗨️ As Chris Appiah, Director of Transport at the ECOWAS Commission, highlighted: "PIDA continues to be the continental convergence for all of us when it comes to where we want to be in terms of infrastructure development... PIDA is not an end in itself, it is supposed to be the enabler to the economic growth that we seek to achieve, being an average of 6% across the continent." 🤝As a long-standing partner to the African Union, we are proud to support the AUC and AUDA-NEPAD in this important step towards keeping Africa’s infrastructure projects on track for 2030.
